Itâs not every day that anti-war groups find themselves cheering on leading Republican presidential candidates. But, then again, this hasnât been a presidential campaign thatâs stuck to the script.
The morning after he called the Iraq War a huge misstep and argued that President George W. Bush lied to get the country into it, Donald Trump has earned praise from, of all places, Code Pink, the group best known for protesting the Iraq War and subsequent military interventions.
âI watched the debate last night and LOVED IT,â Code Pink co-founder Medea Benjamin said in an email.

I ask in all seriousness, is there anybody in the entire world who could say anything about their support, or non-support, of Ted Cruz that would get you to question your support of him?
If not, doesnât that concern you?
Wouldn’t surprise if Trump started handing out “Bush lied, People Died” T-shirts.
"Jet fuel can't burn steel, Jeb!!"
And Medicare expansion, and Roberts.
Oh and that thing about destroying the free market in order to save it.
But all of a sudden Bush has become one of the best presidents of the past 40 years, after most people on FR complained about him for the previous 10.
Vietnam and Iraq are incomparable. The fact that you want to deflect your boy getting love from Code Pink by relating a Communism driven war with that of a terrorist war is your deficiency.
Thinking for yourself requires facts. When you don't have them, you rationalize the irrational.
” billions of dollars were spent (borrowed money, not budgeted)”
TRILLIONS, an estimated 3 to 5 TRILLION so far and still going, they can’t even estimate the cost to within 2 TRILLION dollars!!!!!
Absolutely. If Jimmy Carter, Nancy Pelosi, Camille Paglia, John McCain, or George Will (among others) said good things about Ted Cruz, it would make me evaluate why they said it. It might not make me stop supporting him, but it would at least give me pause.
I personally could vote for Trump in the general without a hesitation, but the cultish behavior among his most vocal supporters on Freerepublic is extremely concerning.
Yesterday a Freeper told me that Trump did not need or want Cruz supporters in the general election.
And he believes it, because his entire posting history is to mock, tear down, and ridicule Cruz supporters.
He is among a group of very vocal Trump supporters that show a devotion to Trump that we all clearly saw among Obama supporters in ‘08. That is dangerous.
Who knew at the time that Obama would come along and make a mess of the whole area. Looking back we should have left Saddam in place.
I think Hillary “lost” that much at the State Department.
Trump reminds me of the president in Idiocracy. His followers do not think or debate with logic, instead they respond with emotion and believe Trump will seek revenge on whatever enemy has robbed them of their happiness. The Trump supporters will actually brag about their vacation at a campground staring and worshipping the wall along the border. Nothing will have changed to save the country or return it to a constitutional republic but we will have to listen to this populism/french revolution praise for four years.
” The fact that you want to deflect your boy getting love from Code Pink “
Why the living hell should I care that this group said what they said? It’s a free* country!
Is that some sort of goofy logic that you actually abide by?
Well if a person says X and some group that I dont like says “we actually agree with that”, that means that X is is the wrong thing to say?
That’s retarded.
I want illegal immigration stopped. Cesar Chavez and Barbra Jordan (no right-wingers) also believed that it should have been stopped. So therefore, using your “logic”, we need to take the opposite position least we actually finding ourselves in agreement with famous LEFTISTS?
Oh Code Pinky also doesn’t want a war in Syria either. I can only assume that you will be for it now?
I see the same behavior in a group of Cruz supporters.
“His followers do not think or debate with logic”
So your “logic”-based view is that the Iraq war was a good idea that actually turned out real well?
Well fine. Go tell Ted Cruz to run on that then. Funny how I dont see him championing the war at all.
BTW what exactly is Cruz’s opinion of it?
You folks exhibit a tendency to focus on every little thing Trump does that you see as a gasp inducing moment. Most of the time it’s just silly stuff, but to you it’s a deal killer all by itself.
He says he would appoint his sister. The same folks that still say he’s for single payer after eight months of him revealing otherwise, jump on this one simple statement and immediately recognize it as ‘irrefutable truth’ a sign from God.
The same thing took place when he jokingly said he’d appoint that local figure to be VP. It was election schmaltz, and every person knew it, except the gasping folks who knew it was another sign from God.
Then you folks package all these simple moments in your mind, and just know that everyone but you have gone insane.
No. They haven’t.
I know you mean well, and what you’re doing makes a lot of sense to you, but you are sadly mistaken.
Trump loves the U. S. and will make a good president.
In time you’ll see that I am right.
And Trump will be an even greater gift.
Trump, being the pragmatist he is, wouldn’t want a war just for the sake of appearances. He’d only want a war if he expects to achieve some tangible goal, and if negotiations failed.
I can see why he would look better to them than Cruz, who seems to be a traditionbot. An utter peacenik would probably get even better marks from them, but this is comparing the GOP front runners.
That's the main reason that Trump is the best out of this whole miserable lot.
And yet when your enimies in the RNC, the GOPe, the DNC, the MSM print media, the MSM Television media, the MSM Cable media, the talking heads, the blogosphere, and Ted’s minions here are all on the same page, this doesn’t concern you at all.
You are missing the forest for the trees.
