This week, the president announced his intention to nominate John Roberts to be a Supreme Court justice.

His nomination has been met with widespread praise, from left and right. Nevertheless, there are some who have raised complaints that his two years on the bench provide insufficient record for them to assess (and attack) his jurisprudence.

That complaint misses the mark for three reasons.

“When the pick was announced, everyone here at FR, gave it thumbs up. No one thought Roberts would become a turncoat that he is”

The point is that all of the big talk about “Cruz will guarantee...” when it comes to SCOTUS is HOT AIR.

He has no more special magic than anyone else. And he KNEW Roberts personally!

He would have supported Luttig were it he making the pick & you do know that Roberts was confirmed 7 years before Cruz was a senator...

I agree with what you said. My problem is with people beating Cruz up for his PAST support, when we all were snookered. He’s been very clear that he did support him and that he had been quite a disappointment. And yet trumpeters still try to beat on him for it, completely ignoring trumps “diverse” past opinions

“One can NEVER know how a person would change.”

That’s why people that are a huge case for how they will guarantee they will nominate only blah blah blah, likely doesn’t know what they are talking about.

OK, but how does that explain the oped in support of Roberts? Whether or not Cruz participated in the confirmation is irrelevant. He’s says he didn’t support the Roberts nomination, but he did.

“My problem is with people beating Cruz up for his PAST support”

And what is the difference between that and the Cruz people constantly saying that Trump is hell-bent on appointing his sister?

Absolutely correct.

He has stated over and over and over he was suggesting someone with a stronger conservative record.

Trump and his idolaters continue this attempted lie to smear Cruz.

At least Cruz has never said he would think an extreme pro-abortion wacko would make a good justice, unlike Trump.

Cruz has to stand up and defend his life/political choices the way every other candidate does. He supported this justice and now wants to run from what he said and wrote. He does this a lot.

Cruz was fully qualified to guide us on Roberts.

We at FR believed him and others about Roberts. We had no credentials to vet Roberts, but trusted them.

They misled us.

Roberts has been a disappointment.

“His legal nominees will confirm(expose) his true beliefs.”

What true beliefs?

Trump has spent his life pursuing his goals for his business.

Some consistent “true beliefs” that he has held for a long time were expressed in an interview on the Oprah Winfrey show in 1988. Guess what? They are the same as he has been articulating since he announced last June.

If he were obsessed with “true beliefs” to the point that you think he is, then why did he wait this long to try to impose them on you.

A true believer is a fool like Sanders. He actually believe his aberration. He has been pursuing them all his miserable life. That is what true believers do.

Even Hillary is in it only for the money and power.

“Obama is a lame duck president and cannot, must not be allowed to shape the future of the court for decades to come....”

This would not even be an issue but for McConnell and Linda Graham and McCain and others.

Name me w prominent conservative back the. Who didn’t support Roberts and knew he’d become a traitor? You can’t because this pick was pretty much applauded universally.

And by the way Cruz’s judgment would be BEST at picking SCOTUS nominees, especially with the stakes now... A whole heck of a lot better than a Trump since he actuay has supported liberals on the court in actually saying so, and through his support of the election of liberal Senators (let’s have a chart to see what liberal/Democrat Senators that Donald Trump has supported financially over the years..supporting them is as good a supporting liberals on the Federal Courts!).

I did. Cruz wasn’t even on FR’s radar at the time. Most of FR praised Roberts nomination after shouting down Miers.
