Trump Was Half-Crazed, But Does Anyone Care?
National Review ^ | February 14, 2016 | Rich Lowry

Posted on 02/14/2016 3:52:35 AM PST by reaganaut1

I feel like we’re back in the pre-Iowa period when no one could figure out whether Donald Trump skipping the Iowa debate would hurt him–by the normal rules, of course it would hurt him; by the Trump rules, it wouldn’t make a difference and maybe even help (by demonstrating strength).

By the normal rules, Trump embracing a blood libel about George W. Bush (he knew there were no WMD in Iraq), saying Planned Parenthood does great things, and often swinging wildly and angrily would hurt him a week out from a primary in Bush-friendly, hawkish, socially conservative South Carolina.

But we’ll see. Certainly Trump’s behavior reinforces the idea that he’s disruptor and not just another politician, and Republican voters might not mind so much that one of the candidates is outspokenly anti-Iraq war (even if he takes it too far). Trump continues to be able to interrupt everyone else with impunity and act the Big Man on stage, with no one really able or willing to assert themselves against him.

Jeb is trying the hardest. He continues to improve–he seems a bit more relaxed and authoritative every debate– and did better against Trump than ever before. But some of his strongest moments were defending his family and although that is honorable, I’m not sure how much that gets him. He has still not figured out how to clearly best Trump, even when he has the better of the argument.

Rubio was very good. A little sharper, a little more conversational. He probably got in more telling jabs against Trump in the Iraq debate than Bush did (although I doubt anyone cares much that Bush was enforcing U.N. resolutions).

I watched the debate.

Why do you have to be so dishonest?

Last Night’s Reality Check: Trump: Half-crazed lib in Conservative sheep’s clothing. Cruz: Lying, sleazy, scumbag politician. Where to go? GOP has screwed the pooch this year.

I have to agree. I lost a lot of respect for Trump on those two issues.
It shows his ignorance on PP and 9/11

Trump was not half crazed. It was a knife fight out there and he held his own.

Trump is right about the good things PP does...if he could totally strip them of their abortion business and leave in place the other things, it would be good for woman....especially the less affluent women that really do use those services.

This is a better approach than shutting them down and then trying to put something else in place...they have the buildings, the people in place and women seeking those services are comfortable going there.....just no abortions

I don’t know where to start with your comments.
I’m not sure if you are serious or just trying to defend Trump,

But Patty Murray’s words came to mind while reading your post....
“Sen. Patty Murray intended to be provocative when she told a group of high school students terrorist leader Osama bin Laden is popular in poor countries because he helped pay for schools, roads and even day care centers.”
http://m.seattlepi.com/news/article/Murray-s-remarks-on-bin-Laden-draw-GOP-ire-1103624.php

You haven’t been on FR long...but this is a pro-life website.
Some of the people in Planned Parenthood should be in prison...
Every Planned Parenthood office should be closed immediately!!
You do realize they were caught on tape discussing prices for baby parts.
And caught talking about harvesting a brain from a live baby.
http://www.lifenews.com/2015/08/19/7th-shocking-video-catches-planned-parenthood-harvesting-brain-of-aborted-baby-who-was-still-alive/

Maybe you could have told Bin Laden...no more terrorist activities after 9-11 just go back to paying for schools, roads, and day care centers.

At times Trump reminds me of Mel Gibson.

Yeah, Lethal Weapon, where he's crazy and suicidal.

Trump has been “pro-life” for about 1% of his own life...

As someone who is pro life, I am beginning to really wonder about others who claim to be pro-life. How do you get anyone to even listen to your side when you mock those that now agree with you? NOTHING has changed electing those with the longest history of pro-life stance.

Which time—when we had a president with a spine, but not much of a prefrontal cortex?

We have far better reason to defeat ISIS than we had to topple Sadam.

Here is Ducking Donald dodging and deflecting when asked about his views on late-term abortion. And this was on January 28 of this year!

Trump freaks out when asked about abortion again

And people wonder why conservatives do not trust this arrogant clown??

Re: 9/11 and the Bushes in general...

I am not a truther by any means, but there was some shady stuff that went on in the immediate aftermath. Also IMO GWB was too busy with his compassionate conservative BS and the fallout from the election and not paying attention to the signs, but that is JMO. He seemed to come into his own after the attack, though. The end of his presidency was a disaster and he is the prime reason we have BO.

Re the Bushes in general. Bush I went to war in the ME. Bush II went to war in the ME. Bush III wants to go to war in the ME. Maybe it’s jut me, but I see a pattern here. Frankly enough treasure and blood has spilled by the Bushes. No more.

Satan is a cop out in the context of debating presidential efficacy. We know that W was indeed asleep on the watch re: intelligence warnings.

But Trump was responding to Jeb! and Rubio’s idiotic claims that W “kept us safe”. Yes, indeed, we suffered a devastating attack on American soil on W’s watch, and then we had tens of thousands of our military men get killed or maimed in Afghanistan and Iraq, with extremely unfavorable rules of engagement, on W’s watch. He should indeed be held accountable for both. W meant well, but wasn’t that careful with our or our soldiers’ “safety”—while Jeb! and Rubio both directly claimed the contrary.

Rich Lowry and the National Review? Really? REALLY?

Lowry praises Bush's performance but if he did so well, why is he polling in the dumps? To win you have to get the votes. Bush ain't doing it, Rich.

As Trump was losing it on the Bushes, he had his “YOU CANT HANDLE THE TRUTH” moment. How dare he, in a room full of Republicans blame GWB for 9/11. The next thing we will hear is how BUSH wouldn’t stop reading the children’s books and flew around the country on AF1, afraid to come back to DC. Screw Trump, why isn’t he running as a moderate Democrat?

Better reason than we had for beating al Qaida? Reason enough to send tens of thousands of troops again?

I can come up with no good reason to fund and keep PP when they have already been compromised for $$ with selling the parts of human babies. Shameful, disgusting.
Time to close the doors on that organization, not tell them to “Just stop the bad stuff and the libs will see to it you continue to get the hard working people’s money”.

Oh, I care, all right.

Anyone who would use the US armed forces to "enforce UN resolutions" is unfit for office.

You and I are on the same page. If Trump..or any candidate had said they’d name Cruz to the Supreme Court, I think it would have defused a lot of the rancor at that moment.
