Sens. Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz got into a heated exchange about immigration reform at the Republican presidential debate on Saturday—with Cruz firing back in Spanish in an attempt to get in the last word.
Cruz had again accused Rubio of supporting “amnesty” in the U.S. Senate, accusing the junior Senator from Florida of saying so in an interview on the Spanish-language television network Univision.
That’s when things got nasty—and bilingual.
“I don’t know how he knows what I said on Univision because he doesn’t speak Spanish,” Rubio retorted.
Cruz then responded in Spanish, taunting Rubio. “Ahora mismo, díselo en Español si tu quieres” the Senator from Texas said, which roughly translates to “Right now, say it in Spanish. If you want.”

I agree somewhat .. but what I object to is what Rubio did .. he told one story in English and one story in Spanish. Only Cruz called him on it .. even though it had been mentioned .. but nobody had actually shown Rubio that since some of them could under Spanish, he was caught red-handed.
Actually that was a pretty good comeback from Cruz to Rubio, even though I am a Trump supporter still I give Cruz his due on that one, I can’t believe Rubio was so foolish (? Ignorant ?) to assume Cruz cannot speak Spanish, that was a horrible mistake and not very well thought out attack by Rubio.

I would be willing to be that you are wrong on that. Cruz is smart, and Spanish is not that difficult to learn. I would be very surprised if he has not been working on it assiduously, but quietly, for years. He also wouldn’t make a big thing about it because it’s a hole card.

Cruz understands and even speaks Spanish. In this he is like a lot of Tejanos—a LOT—that English is his first language, that he is not tempted to say one thing to an Anglo audience and another to a Spanish one.

Jeb was pretty good tonight, but he is not used to fighting. The only way to handle a bully like Trump is to learn to jab better. Someone come up with some one-liners he can use.

Rubio never denied what Cruz claimed Rubio said in Spanish. Rubio only questioned how Cruz could understand it.

If there is anything certain, it is that Cruz does not speak Canuck. His mother is from Maryland and he come to Texas when he was four.
Given that neither Cruz not Rubio is Mexican, you have your wish. Now Jeb’s wife is Mexican and his Spanish leans that way.
