The battle over replacing Justice Antonin Scalia was already underway Saturday afternoon, an unseemly few hours after news of his death shook Washington, with Democrats insisting President Obama should be able to name a quick replacement.
With the court now divided between four Republican-appointed justices and four Democratic picks, Mr. Obama would have a chance to tilt the bench decidedly to the left, and liberal lawmakers said he should have that chance.

We need to keep the Senate and gain the Whitehouse.
I think Mitch McConnell has already said he will not allow Obama to replace Scalia. Let’s hope he sticks to it.
There are four solid liberals on the court right now.
If Obama is permitted to name another strong liberal, then the liberals will decide every case in their favor.
Some people talk about do you want to pick this hill to die on, or words to that effect? This could be such a battle we want to fight, because five liberals on the court will mean that Obama’s transformation will be complete. There will be no future resistance.
I hope the authorities take a real close look at the circumstances of Scalia’s demise. Yes, he was advanced in years, but the timing is certainly advantageous to America’s enemies.
Doesn’t work that way. Cases are already chosen and will come out mid year.
Those piece of @#$@#$ mother @#$@#$s!!!!!
They should be round up and thrown into a pit!!!
Antonin Scalia was worth 50 of any of them!!!!
They make me sick!!
Fly with the Angels, Paesono. :(
WE HAVE TO WIN NEXT YEAR. WE HAVE TO!
Kennedy is a solid liberal on social issues. So on those issues, there are 5 solid liberals now.
For sure....
Cases that haven’t come up yet he can.
That's so cute. You actually think the GOP hasn't been the Dem's lapdog for the last decade. I used to be an idealist, too!
My recent favorite quote on the topic was something close to "Republicans were elected to Congress but Democrats still control Congress".
I dont believe anything Mc Connel says. He might as well run as a dem. The guy is totally worthless to Republicans.
It is clear here "BORK" the crap out of Obama and his nominations.
I’d amend that to 1988 when globalist HW got in.
And when we don't?
You don't believe voting isn't entirely compromised, do you?
I've been saying for a long time now, 2000 was the tipping-point year. That was the year we got a very-middle-of-the-road Republican into the Presidency by only 532 votes. If that wasn't a clear indication of the exact balance point, there is none.
And which GOP leader do you see doing this? McConnell? Ummmmm.....
I think God picked his time. The advantage is that it didn’t happen last year.
Yes and by Monday Ofail will be racheting it up. Trump who is the likely next President needs to weigh in heavily on this and I fully expect him to.
