As you can see, Turkey has begun shelling Aleppo in what is indeed a very serious escalation that will likely prompt a Russian response.
"Shelling was reported at Menagh air base, a former Syrian Air Force facility that Kurds seized from Islamist rebels just days ago, and at three other positions between the airport and Turkish border," The Independent reports. "The air base has been a key target for several parties in the Syrian civil war since 2012, being besieged by rebels for almost a year until it was seized by a coalition including an early form of Isis and the al-Qaeda-linked Jabhat al-Nusra in August 2013 [and] it remained in rebel hands until Thursday, when Kurdish PYD fighters capitalised on the diversion caused by Bashar al-Assadâs forces and Russian air strikes attacking rebel areas to the south to seize Menagh."
"A Kurdish official confirmed the shelling of Menagh air base in the northern Aleppo countryside, which he said had been captured by the Kurdish-allied Jaysh al-Thuwwar group rather than the Kurdish YPG militia," Reuters says, adding that "Both are part of the Syria Democratic Forces alliance." That group, you're reminded, was the subject of intense scrutiny late last year as we documented in our classic piece "Full Metal Retard: US Launches "Performance-Based" Ammo Paradrop Program For Make-Believe 'Syrian Arabs.'" It's the same group the US has been paradropping weapons to.
To sum up, Turkey is deliberately attempting to reverse gains made by the US-backed Kurds in an area that is under siege by the Russians and Iran. Or, more simply: utter chaos.

We have to agree to disagree. The Russian air defense systems have no depth and are not out of range of several weapon systems that could suppress them. And the Russian airfields in Syria also. And, worse yet, they will be isolated there, with no significant logistic link even by air, if the Turks get serious.
You don’t want to know what’s coming. Governments getting rid of their debts by killing those stupid enough to be holding their debt notes. The military is just the tool to get the job done. Film at 11.
They finished the White House shelter about a year ago, as I remember.
True, I have seen some reports of the aftermath but not on the MSM.
i dont mean to pester you, but an averaged sized airblast, how many miles would be no man’s land for years as opposed to ground blast?
Have a look at the map. The Turks are just @ 70km from Latakia, where the Russian logistical base is, as well as their principal airfield and presumably their air defense systems.
The Turks have 100+ rocket and missile systems with >100km range, including US ATACM, which with 300km range can hit anywhere in Northern Syria up to the Lebanese border.
And, more to the point, Turkey can easily get a lot closer very quickly seeing as they have 1000+ tanks and have easy logistics to mount an offensive to grab Latakia. Or they don’t need to get there, just close enough to put it in field artillery range.
The Syrian-Russian position is strategically precarious.

Just remember we were walking around at ground Zero at Hiroshima just weeks later
“After the Islamist leaders of Iran were ensured that they can freely do business with the rest of the world thanks to the White House’s efforts in removing the United Nations Security Councilâs economic sanctions, the ruling clerics are now turning against the US and escalating their efforts to humiliate the US.
By getting the rest of the world en masse to pay Iran with currencies other than the dollar for its oil and gas sales, Iranian leaders hope this will subsequently lead to increases in US interest rates and American product prices in the long-term given Iran has the second largest gas and fourth largest oil reserves worldwide.
For their part, the Russians, Indians, Chinese and Europeans appear to be more than happy to fulfill Iranâs wish and pay the Islamist state of Iran with their countryâs currency rather than the dollar in hopes of profiting from an opening Iranian market.
The Obama administration has been silent — hoping appeasement might change Iranâs attitude — but the mullahsâ currency war against the United States goes on.”

“anyone know if 2 or 3 hundred nuke are exchanged, if thatâs a planet killer, or is that just the movies?”
Well, over about 25 years close to 2000 were set off worldwide and we barely noticed. A few hundred would devastate the countries who played, and the others wouldn’t notice much except the things they get from us would kinda be gone for a while.
I doubt the southern hemisphere would even notice if nobody told them.
As a fun aside, the number of people murdered by government in the last century was around 260 million. Not killed in wars and air raid, but simply the basic definition of murder if an individual did it. That is roughly the estimate of dead on a normal US/Russia exchange.
So the 1900s basically showed us a slow motion nuclear war. We, and the planet would survive it easily. Movies like “on the beach” were pure Science Fiction horror and that’s about it.

That’s giving him too much credit. More like Kerry is playing Tiddly Winks.
That’s what the S-400s are for. Very formidable.
“Turks can also attack the Soviet airbases in Syria”
In 1970, referring to German bases as Nazi bases would make one sound ...uninformed at best. The USSR ended about 25 years ago except for a few people.
We all miss the cold war days, we really do. But you need to let it go. It isn’t good for you to live in the past. As for Turk rocketry, you might want to check with who is the master of rocket warfare there. It isn’t Turkey. The minute Turkey launches a rocket at Latakia, almost all of Turkey instantly becomes an S400 enforced no fly zone.

incredible stats!! several thousand!!
yeah, i guess all those nukes in the dessert didn’t destroy the US.
number of civilians killed by government is horrifying.
we were!!!??
As well, it is important to note that this graphic shows official diplomatic and military support rather than covert operations or unofficial military support.
