[I]n a campaign that has seemingly tested every political rule, Mr. Trumpâs opponents hope his latest provocation will be too much for well-mannered voters in this heavily evangelical Christian state to bear: his use of a pungently vulgar word this week to describe one of his rivals, Senator Ted Cruz.
Mr. Trumpâs raunchy language has become unsurprising at his rallies. And the slur against Mr. Cruz was largely overshadowed by the coverage of the next dayâs New Hampshire primary.
But in voicing the crude term, Mr. Trump has further polarized a Republican Party already deeply divided about his candidacy, particularly across class lines.
His backers, who polls indicate include many without a college degree, see his willingness to speak coarsely as yet another refreshing example of his resistance to political correctness.
His critics, many of them more affluent, view his language as a particularly vivid sign that he lacks basic decency and is ill suited to the nationâs highest office.
The differing reactions are already playing out on the campaign trail.
Rebecca Sardella, who attended a rally for Senator Marco Rubio this week in Myrtle Beach, said she was offended by Mr. Trumpâs language.
âThe way he speaks â that doesnât sound like somebody who really believes in God that much,â said Ms. Sardella, who works for a nondenominational church in North Myrtle Beach. âYou want your children to look up at the president of the United States.â
But at a rally Thursday in an arena in Baton Rouge, La., Mr. Trumpâs supporters treated his profane remark about Mr. Cruz like the hit song of a touring rock band, pleading with him to let it rip again.
âTheyâre all saying, âDo it! Do it!â â he told a clamorous crowd of nearly 10,000, acknowledging their chants.

Of course it can also mean cat.
True that.
I’d rather hear salty language from a “politician” than a LIE from a politician ANY DAY OF THE WEEK !
I’m really hoping Trump does sue him on eligibility to get clarification for future elections.
Maybe after Trump trounces him in S.C. or on Super Tuesday, and it has become super obvious Trump doesn’t need to sue him as a tactic to win, Trump will do us all a favor and force a resolution to the eligibility questions. He needs to sue Rubio too. I don’t think either one is qualified.
But when Roger Calero can get on the ballot when he is not even a citizen but a green card holder, then the system needs work.
I think Trump is setting these guys up. This will turn out to help him, in the end. Watch.
Let's see...Trump has controlled the media from the get-go, neutered the GOPe, ended the campaigns of those who have attacked him.
Trump is MUCH more of a doer than any other candidate.
The other candidates are just big talkers.
Are people really trying to make a big deal that Trump happened to recite a vulgar word that another woman used to describe Cruz? Get a grip.
I’m with you on settling the issue. My issue is Trump is extremely thin skinned and as a liberal used to taking everything to court when he doesn’t get his way.
Lol trust me if he wins he won’t get ANYWHERE in legislation and Congress...and if he does all will be locked through the courts.
You are naive to think otherwise..how’d that work for Obama ? Bush before him? It didnt
Certainly unprofessional.
I wonder if he has higher standards for those he employs than he does for himself. Do his receptionists regularly fling vulgarities around on the job and name call?
BTW. You is your candidate?
They're all saying, "Do it! Do it!" he told a clamorous crowd of nearly 10,000, acknowledging their chants.
Trump supporters in all their glory. Crass, crude, brain dead and incredibly stupid:
I think understanding the court system is going to server Trump well as President. Of course that’s one area where Cruz really does have the advantage, since Cruz is a lawyer. But it’s pretty much the only advantage Cruz has.
Is that why Trump has the highest negativity rating of any presidential candidate in the entire history of Gallup polling?
Setting them up huh? Ok then
He’ll still do better than the Paul Ryans and Mitch McConnells.
Still dredging up old news, that’s pretty pathetic.
I suppose you’re PO’d because your candidate usually holds his rallies in a phone booth, and a really big one at a small diner.
I do prefer Cruz as a consistent conservative but it’s all become one giant clown show truthfully. The whole thing is. Conservatism died years ago and any hope of it returning along with it. We are now ruled by the uniparty emperors and we the public have become the jesters.
American idol now rules the day
While I don’t want him I do hope that should he reach the office he truly does do everything he says. History in his positions state otherwise
We shall see
Trump is MUCH more of a doer than any other candidate.
The other candidates are just big talkers.
Trump has managed to figure out how to build skyscrapers in places with Byzantine bureaucracies, not the least of which is New York City.
I don't think that half the Republican candidates or any Democrat candidate (or Obama) could figure out how to change a flat tire if he or she was marooned alone in the middle of Death Valley and their lives depended on it.
