WaPo: The utter ugliness of Donald Trump’s campaign should scare us all
Washington Post ^ | February 10, 2016

Posted on 02/11/2016 1:51:59 AM PST by Zakeet

THE STUNNINGLY handy wins by two anti-establishment candidates in the New Hampshire primary Tuesday are prompting conversation about similarities between New York businessman Donald Trump, the Republican victor, and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders, the socialist victor on the Democratic side. The similarities are important - but the differences are more so.

Both have positioned themselves as outsiders appealing to voters who believe the system, and the leaders of the two major parties, have failed them. The grievances they speak to are real: a sense that the economy has left too many people behind, that globalization and technological change are helping the few while stranding the many.

Both Mr. Trump and Mr. Sanders offer convenient scapegoats and simple-sounding solutions. For Mr. Sanders, the "greed" of the "billionaire class" has rigged the system against working people. Tax the 1 percent, and everyone else can have free college and free health care. Political obstacles can be swept away by a "political revolution." America's enemies will be fought by a mythical Sunni Muslim coalition. The villains for Mr. Trump are "stupid" people running the government who allow foreigners to take advantage of the United States. The solution - well, his solution - is to elect Mr. Trump.

We think both men are dangerously if seductively wrong in their facile diagnoses and prescriptions. But Mr. Sanders's platform is at least well-meaning.

They should be Lois Lerner’d into submission, purged and forced into our version of “diversity classes” and re-education camps “lite”.

But Trump isn't fascist at all.

Remember when people on this site would discuss articles from all sorts of sources and critique the arguments intelligently?

Now, it’s all “why did you post this?”

We need to be aware of what we are up against.

We need to understand what the media is saying about us.

I 100% agree. Unfortunately many (not most) on this forum want to live in an echo chamber and only want to have their gut feelings validated. For these people there is no debate-no critical thinking. Just knee jerk ad homs or insults. Anything but attacking the substance of the opposite opinion. I have been flamed just for posting articles that espouse the left wing opinion. My intent was to show the flaws in the left's "logic" and hopefully have my brethren freepers tear the arguments to threads. Instead all I got was insults and accusations. As a result, I rarely post or comment anymore or even read the comments anymore (though I obviously made an exception here).

The damn shame of it is, is that the facts and the history are on our side.

WaPo: It is well-meaning to promise people things that can't possibly be delivered and will bankrupt the government in the process ... it is ugly and scary to attempt to rein in an abusive and out-of-control government.

Nice summary - that's exactly what this dishonest article is trying to get away with saying.

Exactly...let’s just continue to let the FED BEAST run out of control and bankrupt the nation into ruin.

God forbid we try to change that coarse.

"The socialist end-state is always a society that looks a lot like feudal Europe--most people living in miserable poverty, with a very few positioned at the top living in luxury. No one who dreams of such an end-state has good intentions."

I see that vision unfolding here in the Seattle area. Single-family houses are selling at exorbitant prices, while others are being torn down to make way for apartments and small townhouses. A burgeoning trend is the construction of tiny "micro-apartments", scarcely larger than a single room.

The elite are using lack of space as a means for discouraging the formation of families. Generational continuity is becoming a privilege of the rich.

Because new development in outlying areas is virtually banned, population density is increasing, and the cost of housing rises as the quality of life deteriorates.

And what is the centerpiece of "progressive" economics? Raising the minimum wage, NOT creating middle-class jobs.

“Fascism” is - above all - a vision of society in which the federal government is seen as the lifeblood of society, and all other institutions - church, family, business, education, entertainment, state and local government - must be subordinated to it and “partnered” with it in secondary and derivative roles. That is Obama’s vision; I don’t think it is Trump’s. “Fascism” has no necessary connection to racist ideology, and Italian fascism was very different from Nazism.

"Us" = The decadent anti-American Left, of course...

It does! It scares the wits out of them. And it should!

They're going to be even more scared when he's elected and they realize that their invidious objective has been aborted.

Trump’s rise is a reaction to all the anti-white Political Correctness that is destroying the country and an absolute hatred for the establishment elites......
Even if you don’t support him, you have to LOVE the fact that he has these D-Baggers crapping the bed.

Besides, the “ugliness” has been here all along, it has been a staple in the playbook of the American Left.
Much like Cam Newton, they can dish it out but they can’t take it.

The vile Washington Post is subscribed to by the various bureaucracies in Washington. A President Trump or Cruz can order these bureaucrats not to use taxpayer money to pay for those subscriptions. The end result will be the death of this communist “newspaper.”

Actually, it’s a very good post because it shows the complete horror with which the DC DemonCrap establishment views the Donald. IMHO, they understand him batter than some people here who view him as a secret lib. IOW, this is great endorsement for the Donald as far as I’m concerned.
