Davis was a vocal proponent of the Brady Bill, who went so far as to burn all of his military-style semiautomatic firearms on national television while the bill was being debated in Congress. He later called the bill largely ineffective, because of its wording, which does not ban guns by type or firing capacity, but rather by specific technical attributes.

Yup. He even told my brother and I why when we were talking to him in his remaining store 4-5 years ago

He pushed the assault weapons ban because he had a bunch of shipping containers full of the to-be-banned items that he made a killing on before the ban went into effect

most gun dealers support making money... whether it be mandatory background checks that they have to do, transfers, registration.. anything that forces you to call them for a service they can get paid for.

Don Davis was not a 2nd Amendment supporter by any stretch of the phrase. His prices were astronomically high... you couldn't even go to that range without doing a double-take when you found out how much it cost for 1/2 hour. His shop was strategically located in the hood. He probably sold more high-point 9mm's than anyone in the country. I can even remember when he staged an event with the news and burned a bunch of old, cheap ak-47's and SKS's for publicity. He was pretty good at attracting attention. In fact, he hasn't even owned the gun stores for years... the new owners kept the name and him around because of the recognition factor.

All his shortcomings aside, he was a really good person. He was well known for giving away a lot of his money to needy people and helping out local communities. It wasn't out of character for him to see someone who looked poor in the grocery store and pay their checkout bill for them. He did stuff like that all the time.

Don was very good and publicizing anything and everything. And, I might add, he was always a target for gun-ban groups and local media... I can only imagine how many thousands he spend over the years fighting off lawsuits and attacks.
