Israelis who posted Facebook statuses in Tel Aviv during the weekend were surprised to find that according to Facebook, they were not in Tel Aviv - but rather in "Al Mas'Udiya."
The name refers to a town abandoned by Arab residents during the 1948 War of Independence, when the surrounding Arab nations tried and failed to destroy the nascent modern Jewish state.
The location of the village, which has not existed for around 68 years, currently would be between the streets of Ibn Gabirol and Arlozorov in Tel Aviv, right near Hameah Tower.
Facebook took things even further by listing several events due to take place in "Al Mas'Udiya" on the location's page - including the Samsung Tel Aviv Marathon and the Chocolate Festival, reports Yedioth Aharonoth on Sunday.
It goes without saying that Tel Aviv is well within the 1949 Armistice lines, which the UN fully recognizes as sovereign Israeli territory.

Facebook is a flagrant example of PC destroying culture.
Israel needs to block internet access to the “palestinians”
They are using Facebook and other social media to create havoc and spread their lies.
It really is a matter of their national security.
They really had to dig deep and do some diligent research in order to make that inadvertent, accidental, innocent error./s
Yep. Accidental, my foot.
Just like Jerusalem is always “Al-Quds”.
The Facebook culture is..., well..., problematic at best.
Why should this surprise us.
The judgment at that sight is non-existent.
Indeed...although I was thinking of a different anatomical region that my foot.
Nope, thought not.
I wonder if the Falkland Islanders have to live with the name Islas Malvinas on Facebook.
I believe that it was Facebook that recently was ‘outed’ for how pervasive its bias was. A (Israeli?) organization posted two identically worded attack articles, one citing Jews as evil, the other Palestinian. The one attacking the Palestinians was blocked almost immediately, the one attacking Jews remained available until the story became well enough known to penetrate the embarrassment wall at Facebook!
Saw a cable show the other night about Jews that fought for the Third Reich. I thought at the time that Zuckerberg would have been a good leader for the Jews for Hitler crowd.
I disengaged from FB almost as soon as I joined, back when it first came out.
I made the mistake of “friending” a “American Jazz Bass Player” in Egypt, and he started posting MB propaganda videos on my wall!
FB chased me for years trying to get me to “re-consider” but I don’t want anything to do with them.
brought to us by Mark Zuckerberg.
That Zuckerberg must be the world’s prime example of ‘self loathing Jew’.
Mark F____erberg, self-hating Jew. Stunningly useful idiot.
I hear ya. I signed up to keep someone else from using my screen name.
I’ve done that with a number of different services.
