How Donald Trump Broke the GOP’s Music Curse (he keeps playing Adele even after she complains)
Politico ^ | Feb 7 2016 | Review Troy

Donald Trump has been blowing up the old traditional GOP certainties left and right, and this week he overturned another one. In what seemed like an embarrassing rebuke, on February 1, Adele told the Republican front-runner that he didn’t have her permission to use her songs at his massive campaign events. Adele might just be the world’s most popular singer at the moment, and any normal candidate would have folded his tent, chastened. Not Trump. At his rally in Little Rock, Arkansas two days later the crowd of thousands listened to Adele’s “Skyfall” before Trump’s helicopter landed. A day after that, in Exeter, New Hampshire, Adele’s “Rolling In the Deep” could be heard blaring behind the candidate when he made his entrance

Perhaps Chrissie is ok with it now, but I remember reading an article about this many years ago, in which she expressed her disagreement with Rush’s use of the song.

Good for her if she’s gotten over it.

Yes, this is another example of Trump differentiating himself from career politicians.

Cruz fan here too, that said, Adele is just blowing smoke rings. Trump paid the license fees, she doesn’t have a leg to stand on. All she can do is gripe to her liberal friends that will listen (the media).

Why does Adele even care, she lives in high tax England. Do US politics really interest her at all.

By the way she has a complete sold out USA tour coming up very soon. It’s all PR and she is getting new fans and exposure.

“No but it doesn’t look great when she makes it clear he’s doing it without permission and then publicly repudiates him. Makes him look like jerk.”

Your anti-Trump comments on thread after thread make YOU consistently look like a jerk. And he does have permission, jerk, he pays the royalties so he can legally use the music. Wise up.

By the way, who the hell is Adele?

I’m not up on contemporary music since approximately the Motown/Beach boys/four Seasons era.

Disagreeing is one thing, but if Trump supporters aren’t trash, then no one is. I’ll be glad when he’s defeated and his supporters go back into their crevices and under their rocks. Then conservatives get back to the serious job of saving the country.

And though i did not read all of the http://scholarship.shu.edu/cgi/viewcontent.cgi?article=1277&context=student_scholarship article, it seems worthy reading for those who really are interested in this issue. And indeed the hypocrisy regarding the Christian bakers not having the right to decide who gets to consume their products is ignored. Imagine a Muslim commercial artist refusing to create a song for the celebration of the modern state of Israel, or a homosexual one for the American Family Association. These would be exalted as heroes in the MSM, and as victims in the case of any objections to them.

Too bad. If Trump paid for the rights to the music he can play it all day long. Its not like Adele was going to vote for him anyway. :-)

The only reason I know her is because where I work, they play the radio all day long. She’s a young singer/songwriter. She’s actually pretty talented IMO. She doesn’t rely on a lot of modern studio effects to artificially ‘improve’ her voice, like a lot of young artists do. I always cringe when I use the word ‘artists’ to describe pop musicians, but it is what it is. At least people know what you mean.

They are court jesters, worthy of a few coins if they amuse with a catchy jingle, an pratfall, or a funny hat. The idea that celebrities who get their political views from their agent or their yoga instructor should have anything to contribute to our political dialog is silly.

I doubt that Adele does care about politics in U.S. Most likely this is being driven by the leftists that handle her business dealings over here. They probably told her it was a bad idea to have a conservative politician playing her songs at his rallies. Probably also told her that Donald Trump was the U.S. version of Margaret Thatcher, likes Winston Churchill and once tried to arrange a date with Princess Diana. And that’s probably all she needed to know.

“Then conservatives get back to the serious job of saving the country.”

Tell me how conservatives have been “saving the country” over the past 16 years (since George Bush was elected with Republican Congress). Please name two things that conservatives did to “save the country,” either when the GOP ran the entire government for 6 straight years, or when they have run congress over the past two years. I’ll be waiting for your answer, but my patience isn’t unlimited.

Believe it or not, ASCAP actually sends people to public places such as restaurants, bars and retail shops and if they hear music that is protected by copyright and the proprietor is not paying the necessary royalty, he can get assessed a fine and even be sued. I believe businesses have actually been shut down over this.

And virtually not a dime of that money is paid to the artists who were actually played in that building.

There is no "playlist log", no audits of the music, strictly "are any ASCAP artists played".

It's a shakedown racket. Pay your protection fee to the muscle (and they are big guys) or face consequences.

Well, I think we're learning, by their tacit and explicit support of Trump, that a lot of ‘conservatives’ have really just been con-men all this time.
