Our buddy Rick Shaftan just forwarded us the latest spot that his messaging shop has put together for the pro-Ted Cruz Courageous Conservatives PAC, and itâs really something.
It frames the GOP race for the folks in New Hampshire as a three-way contest â with Marco Rubio as the lightweight, Donald Trump as the deadweight and Cruz as the heavyweight.
And its critique of Rubio and Trump â namely, that while Rubio is likable he doesnât have a whole lot of accomplishments on his resume signifying his fitness to be president (Rubio probably has more than the ad gives him credit for, but the fact is the most prominent legislative endeavor with which heâs associated is the Gang of Eight bill) and Trump has never really done much of anything to prove heâs the conservative he says he is and is now glomming on to his supposed conservatism in order to get himself elected, Cruz is the leader conservatives have been waiting for since Reagan.
And it presents that basic point in a snappy, fast-moving, entertaining and unmistakably clear fashion. This is what a good political ad needs to look like. Get in, give the folks your message in a way they can understand, and with fun imagery that doesnât bore them or come off as pretentious, and then get out.
We love it. If it was an ad for somebody other than Cruz, weâd still love it. Itâs too bad this isnât the standard for GOP messaging.
love it...
and i was for donald trump til i saw that ad.
now i can’t wait to vote for TED CRUZ.
Go Ted!
(ok, so i have always been a cruz fan)
Nice ad! Thanks for sharing.
Seems like a bit of a ruling elite argument to me in the sense that if you haven’t been in government, how can you prove you’re a conservative?
We need more citizen-statesmen running for office in government and fewer career politicians.
I like Cruz in general but I don’t like that argument. As I said, to me it is a “ruling elite” argument that only those in government can prove themselves and do the job. I loathe and despise ruling elitism and don’t buy it.
I would think that Trump is a Fiscal Conservative and Social moderate. And that’s just fine with me.
Really Good ad. Best of the cycle so far. So why is the heavy weight losing in NH polls to the light weight? Hmmm
They even use my screen name in it!
Just your typical ‘big donor’ PAC ad pretending that politicians like Cruz actually have a moral compass other than the direction that the donors insist they go. Any sense at all tells you to ‘follow the money’ not what the PAC ad money tells you to think. PAC ads are revolting no matter who puts them out. Sadly, the average schmuck has no idea that they are being manipulated by globalists who only want their vote and who will knife them in the back at the first opportunity.
Cruz ads are fun. They have a sense of humor while making a serious point. Good stuff.
to me it is a âruling eliteâ argument that only those in government can prove themselves and do the job
You’ve stated the perfect observation, that corruption in the political realm is endemic to success, which completly invalidates the political model itself-—in theory...
In a perfect world, your concern is correct; if I were being held at gunpoint and forced to reveal who I would like to see in the presidency, I would say Trump, for the very reasons you’ve put forth...but when it comes time for my state’s primary (way down the road,so it’s moot) I wouldn’t vote for him, because he can’t win agaisnt the party I oppose; and to do otherwise, would be counterproductive to the political process that we have, the only one we are ever going to have...
a sad situation, really...
I am a Cruz fan, but I think anyone that makes up their mind to vote for someone over a campaign spot commercial is a blooming idiot.
Wow, well I see our chances against the Dems differently - I see Trump as the one to skewer whoever the Dems prop up. I’’m very concerned about Cruz’s ability to beat Hillary or Sanders. I think Rubio would be a disaster.
One big reason I’m for Trump is not only do I think he’d skewer the Dems, I’d love to see it, especially Trump vs. Hillary - I think he’d beat he like a drum. Do my heart good.
One way is thru your past record of support and affiliations on political topics and organizations.
By this measure, Trump has a big problem. His conervstism dates back only to when he began making moves to position himself for this run, in 2013. The other 45+ years of his adult life paint a different picture.
“Statesman”: not an image of proper decorum necessarily, but doing what’s best for the country, not for self-aggrandizement. I think Trump could fill the bill here for that.
Trump skewers those who reject him. He uses everyone who will bring a profitable deal no matter their ideals or lack thereof.
I know a lot about politics, and I’m a big Cruz fan.
It’s an OK ad, but nothing to write home about.
