Gov. John Bel Edwards directed the state Thursday to drop a federal lawsuit challenging Common Core that was pushed by former Gov. Bobby Jindal.
Edwards also ordered the termination of a $475,000 state contract to handle the legal challenge held by the law firm of Alexandria attorney Jimmy Faircloth, a former Jindal aide.
The governor, in a prepared statement, said newly enacted federal legislation makes moot issues raised in the lawsuit.
It does not benefit students to continue to use time and resources to pursue litigation that no longer has any bearing on classrooms in Louisiana, Edwards said in the statement.
Both Edwards, an attorney, and Jindal are opponents of Common Core, which represents revamped benchmarks for reading, writing and math.

As Louisiana attorney general, I am intervening in this case and I will determine if it will proceed, Landry said in a prepared statement. I want to be sure the U. S. Department of Education is not holding our local schools hostage."
All the new legislation does is change the name.
I think the people of Louisiana are going to rue the day they elected a democrat. Although the choices were not all that great.
We must never give up the fight against Common Core. Never ever. Even if you don’t have children you have a vested interest in ridding schools of this evil garbage, lest the Republic will be lost for sure.
Agree.
Yep! I completely agree. It’s akin to communistic brain washing of our youngest at the age of maximum impressionability. I recently read an article calling for raising the age of entry into public school to 8. The author made a very good argument for doing so: By the time someone has reached the age of 8, they’re pretty well grounded in what they’ve learned of the world through the eyes of their family and religious teachings.
Edwards sez “...newly enacted federal legislation makes moot the issues raised in the lawsuit.”
DC has decreed it. The peons will shut up and obey.
Some FReepers actually support this guy.
All the conservative progress made by former governor Bobby Jindal is currently being reversed by Edwards, the new Democrat gov of Louisiana. He’s a tax and spend liberal and supporter of top down DC dictatorship and everything else conservatives are supposed to be against.
In the Presidential race, many FReepers would not even bother to look at Jindal’s solid conservative record, instead preferring to insult him with comments of “get me a cherry slurpee, Bobby.”
We rail and holler about the bias in the mainstream media, yet we continue to allow the mainstream media—and their polls—to control whom we pay attention to, and whom we will ignore.
SMH.
Everyone can name Jeb Bush’s greatest accomplishment, even though there is nothing great about it.
Jindal’s lawsuit had a strong case according to the article below.

At the national level, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal (R) has brought a lawsuit against the Obama administration’s Department of Education, one that syndicated radio host Hugh Hewitt and his fellow law professor John Eastman have said could be as significant as the court’s decision in Texas to halt Obama’s executive amnesty.
Jindal’s lawsuit claims that “through regulatory and rule making authority, Defendants have constructed a scheme that effectively forces States down a path toward a national curriculum.”

Dummies in Louisiana already getting their ash kicked. You get the government you deserve. This is just the beginning of the damage you brought on yourselves.
