The contrived furor over the Cruz Campaign tweet relaying a CNN Breaking News alert about Ben Carson is perhaps the intellectually unserious low point in all of Republican primary history. It's so patently absurd that it's hard to know where to start. The conversation around this from Donald Trump and Fox and on the internet is every bit as disingenuous as the "Gentle giant, hands up don't shoot" narrative on Michael Brown. It's parallel universe stuff.
This is what liberals do!
So with a promise to fully expose the silliness and irrelevance of this issue, I'll start by diving in with the most obvious and important fact. It changed nothing. It's a nonstory. Carson's caucus percentage was almost identical to his polling numbers over the last month. In fact, he was closer to that than any other candidate. He was a distant third, meaning he would have had to have lost more than half his votes over this to have changed the order of the finish and impact delegate counts. Instead, his support was the steadiest of any candidate over the final months. It didn't go up or down much.
Meanwhile, Cruz broke every Iowa Caucus record with his tally and was a comfortable first. The only close race was for second between Trump and Marco Rubio. Thus, even if it was a dirty trick -- and it was not -- and even if it was cheating -- and it was not -- then it still wouldn't matter because it changed absolutely nothing. These guys have been in Iowa for a year and been on TV for many months so please don't embarrass yourself and insult us by pretending to think that a tweet at 6:45 pm impacted an 18 month campaign that started at 7. It's beyond absurd.

However, I don't think CEW quite gave Fox News it due in this...
As any sentient viewer could tell you, Fox News immediately came out of the gate after the Iowa results with a vigorous fury to spin Rubio's Iowa Bronze into Gold. There is no doubt that Fox News has some serious Rubio LUV going on and want to take Cruz out in order to clear the way for their boy. This Carsongate non-story simply provided Fox News with a convenient cudgel to beat Cruz to death with. Watching Megyn, Greta, and Bill (the arrogant, ignorant, dork) O'Reilly try to manufacture this non-story into a real scandal has been dismaying, but utterly predictable. Can you believe that they had Mr. Whiteboard and Numbers Guy, Queen of the Establishment, Karl Rove on their show to seriously make the case that indeed it's not only possible - by the numbers - that Carsongate had an impact, but that it most likely did?!
Once again, like with Dan Rather's Memogate, people had to go the blogosphere to get the real truth on what happened here. Fox News has shown itself to be no better than CBS in it's efforts to play a role in the outcome of an elections process.
Last thing... Regarding Rubio...
Let me remind any who might read this...
Amnesty is one of the seminal issues of this election (indeed it is the issue that arguably put Donald Trump on the map). By choosing Rubio as our nominee, the issue of amnesty automatically becomes forfeit before the general contest even begins. Romney had no credibility to campaign or argue against Obamacare for he himself was the grandfather of it. Likewise, Rubio will have no credibility - after being the chief architect of the Rubio/Schumer Gang of 8 bill - to make a case against amnesty. To make matters worse, Rubio is still for a pathway to citizenship. The only difference now is that Rubio's plan put's a few hoops (that will likely never materialize) in that path before we get there. If you are a mushy middle, establishment, RINO, Chamber of Commerce fan-boy type, you might find Rubio's position appealing. If you are a conservative however that cares about getting this illegal immigration issue solved, then you would be better serverd to look elsewhere than Rubio. Lastly, whatever hopes you want to project onto Rubio, remember that when he ran for the Senate in 2010 he vociferously opposed amnesty only to turn around later to stab us in the back on this issue once he was in office.

That is - if he is dead, undead, or alive on FR at this moment.
Wow....this is rich....you’re back from your ban and you post an article by a guy who is currently banned.
Ironic.
:)
I can just picture HilLIARy using it saying “Look at the circus the GOP field has become”
Ben Carson is a crazy-smart guy, and learning politics. At some point he will realize this whole thing was done by trump, for trump, not for carson...he is being played...
ole CEW got banned?. LOL
Wow....this is rich....youâre back from your ban and you post an article by a guy who is currently banned.

LOL love it...call them like you see them...
Just what I like, pure unbiased reporting. I would have read the post if you had left out the word Contrived.
Just take a two headed coin out of your pocket and flip it and announce winner, every time the subject comes up.
Who “leaked” it to CNN? I have a feeling who that âlittleâ birdie might be....

Amid ââ¬ÅDiminishedââ¬Â Fundraising, Ben Carson Is Cutting Staff
“Non story”?
The quality of thinking at American Thinker ain’t what it used to be.
I also read that Carson’s NH paid staffers had already defected to the Cruz campaign before the Iowa caucuses, and if so would have contributed to the Cruz campaign’s conclusion that Carson was bailing. Is this true or not?
I didn’t know C. Edmund was banned.
That just made my day.

Excellent article and accurate analysis. You and C.Edmund Wright were banned? Whatever for? Must have offended some Trump supporters. The most offensive can be the most easily offended, just look at The Donald.
If your candidacy can be done in by a tweet, it’s a pretty fragile thing.
What a waste of time.
99% of ALL political stories are contrived.
All this idiot says is that he didn’t like this particular contrived story.
The voice recordings are devistating and if one of Carson’s voters come out and says they were snookered by a Cruz operative into voting Cruz, then all hell will break loose.
I also read that Carsonâs NH paid staffers had already defected to the Cruz campaign before the Iowa caucuses, and if so would have contributed to the Cruz campaignâs conclusion that Carson was bailing. Is this true or not?
That happened on January 11th. Team Cruz is trying to conflate events in a post caucus CYA op. Nothing lower than disenfranchising voters. Is a poll tax rumor next from Team Cruz?
“The quality of thinking at American Thinker ain’t what it used to be.”
Nor is the quality of the writing.
