Windham, New Hampshire (CNN)The day after winning the Iowa caucuses, Ted Cruz issued an apology to Republican rival Ben Carson for falsely telling Iowa caucusgoers that the retired neurosurgeon planned to quit the race, calling it a "mistake."
Cruz said in a statement Tuesday that his campaign staff saw a CNN report that Carson was dropping out, although CNN had not characterized Carson's actions that way.
"Last night when our political team saw the CNN post saying that Dr. Carson was not carrying on to New Hampshire and South Carolina, our campaign updated grassroots leaders just as we would with any breaking news story," Cruz said in a statement first shared with CNN. "That's fair game. What the team then should have done was send around the follow-up statement from the Carson campaign clarifying that he was indeed staying in the race when that came out."

They were passing on what they were must have thought was genuine, not "seshing the lie" (that they KNEW was in error).
Who --- right in the middle of all the rest of that evenings activities would have the time to have a "bull session" (if that's what you meant by seshing-- try speaking actual English) going over the info -- determining it to "be a lie" and then decided "but what the hey, let's go for it anyway"?
That's seems to be what you are accusing them of doing, while insulting me, telling me it's over my head, etc.
You could prove differently, if there were better sources.
Meawhile, it appears to be purely a mistake, predicated on following a CNN mistake (which may have been a deliberate red herring to muck up the works).
I can't see Cruz signing off on a deliberate kneecapping of Ben Carson. Why would he need to? Carson wasn't going to best him in Iowa, regardless.
Isn't it obvious Carson won't be the eventual nominee, but Cruz, despite some fierce opposition, does stand a chance?
Who else would you prefer?
Rubio?
Trump, maybe?
Shoot -- maybe we should have all thrown our support behind Christie.
I think in a general election he would stand a pretty good chance against the Hildabeast. She's fairly well and widely hated nowadays.
Sander's caucus supporters began chanting "liar, liar" when the Hildabeast came into view on tv screens;
DES MOINES, Iowa -- The room at Bernie Sanders' rally here turned ice cold when Hillary Clinton's speech took over the televisions here. The crowd booed loudly at first, then cheered when the sound cut out. The sound soon returned and Clinton was drowned out by further boos when she said "I'm a progressive who gets things done."
It escalated from there: Chants of "She's a liar!" took over the room before the campaign just entirely shut off the stream, cutting away from MSNBC entirely.
Trump is an idiot, so if you use him to make any point, you start from a losing position.
Take the needless insult, and shove it, ego-breath. Your writings are less than clear.
I realize that the Dem Party operatives stop at nothing, and will stoop to anything. Nothing is too low for them. And this Jeff Roe guy has been called a bully. Maybe he is. If so, then my chiefest concern is that he may not be as effective at dirty tricks as Democrat Party operatives like Axelrod.
What we need on the conservative side of the aisle are operatives who can think like the worst of the Demon Party operatives, and be ready for whatever they throw at our candidates. Is Roe up to the task? Who would be? (if you figure that out, have Cruz hire the bastard!).
Yet here you go on, warning that Cruz would be a victim (he most certainly would be a target) of political consultants, but now instead of Democrat Party manipulators & tricksters, Cruz will become a victim of consultants who have been working for a whole raft of other Republican candidates...why, I don't know. Because they may do something dirty, on purpose?
Why mention this now (and insult me, while you were at it)? Do you really believe that in the midst of a fast moving Iowa caucus -- that Cruz himself would have been brought into the loop in regards to a dirty trick (to play on Carson) and actually sign off on it?
Prior to allegedly driving "Mourdock into the ground" he previously helped that same guy defeat Richard Lugar. Was that a bad thing (in your estimation) too?
But go ahead and tell me why it's all that consultant's fault that one of his clients lost to a Democrat. You may be right. I know nothing much about that election. Not my geographic area.
I know little to nothing about the Roe, but it appears that some of his clients have enjoyed electoral victories.
If you have some beef with Roe, take it up with him, or else contact Cruz about it. Or will you just cruise political forums, trying to tar Cruz for reason of the consultants he has hired? If that's what you're about -- WHO are you ultimately helping?
Meanwhile, I'm not here to be a whipping boy for you to punish, for yet someone else's perceived misdeeds.
lol
Rumor is, Trump is going back to running his empire.
Vote Cruz!! I wish The Donald would go back to Hew York and hand out with his buddy Bloomberg!!!
A billionaire is an idiot? We should have more idiots like that. Cruz screwed up and you want to make excuses for him.
This is very interesting!
do it all the time. no es problemo
Sadly there are many people on Free Republic who want to believe that Cruz cheated and lied. Thus they haven’t watched the CNN report or considered the timeline which shows that the Cruz campaign acted on a breaking news story which was later discovered to be erroneous. Ironic that many of the die hard Trump supporters expect the Cruz team to exhaustively fact check a media report and yet are happy to smear Cruz without even watching the relevant CNN report.
That is a tinfoil article you are linking.
Fast reader aren’t you? I guess you saw the screen captures also?
I was on the thread devoted to that article earlier.
I am so outraged at that. Must be nice to be so Politically Correct. He is too funny!
Pray America wakes
This is so huge. I just heard that CRUZ HAS PULLED OUT!! It is on CNN so I know its true!! He said that he is so ashamed and refocused — he simply can’t go on!! . Good Bye Ted. Enjoy the practice of criminal law again.
Oh yes, Trump is an idiot. His money means nothing. In fact, if you took what he inherited and just invested it in an index fund, he’d have twice as much than what he has today.

So, yep - idiot. He’s earned less money with his inheritance than if he just squirreled it away and did nothing.
There's a difference between PC and common decency. Trump has neither.
How many millions have you made let alone billions in NYC. You sound like an Occupier.
When a person calls an intentional lie a “mistake” because they were caught lying for their own advantage, they are still lying. When they say it was a mistake their apology is worse than meaningless and in fact the apology is itself another lie.
The right thing to do would be to say we intentionally mislead others in order to gain political advantage and got caught lying which we will never do again and then make restitution to the injured parties.
I cannot believe I was completely fooled by him last year when I sent him my money.
Nice spin by CNN! They reported the "Breaking News" that Carson was "taking a break" from the campaign. That is what candidates say when they "suspend" the campaign.
