Windham, New Hampshire (CNN)The day after winning the Iowa caucuses, Ted Cruz issued an apology to Republican rival Ben Carson for falsely telling Iowa caucusgoers that the retired neurosurgeon planned to quit the race, calling it a "mistake."

Cruz said in a statement Tuesday that his campaign staff saw a CNN report that Carson was dropping out, although CNN had not characterized Carson's actions that way.

"Last night when our political team saw the CNN post saying that Dr. Carson was not carrying on to New Hampshire and South Carolina, our campaign updated grassroots leaders just as we would with any breaking news story," Cruz said in a statement first shared with CNN. "That's fair game. What the team then should have done was send around the follow-up statement from the Carson campaign clarifying that he was indeed staying in the race when that came out."

Here is the CNN report which aired 15 minutes before the start of the caucus’s Watch the video and you will see that CNN was reporting that Carson was going home until the prayer breakfast on Thursday. They also were saying that this was very very unusual and meant he wasn’the trying to win. CNN is blatantly lying now when they say they were only reporting that that Carson was taking a short break to change clothes. This is all on CNN. I agree that it’s all about Rubio.

I don’t think that it’s what most of us deserve.

First of all, individuals cannot use eminent domain. Cruz should know this. Second, the widow did not lose her home to eminent domain. She kept the house and lived in it. But the ad shows a bulldozer turning the house to rubble. The voiceover says Trump got rich using eminent domain. In fact, he made not One Penny via eminent domain. It was a total, complete and sleazy lie.

Voters were asked about the ad. They said Trump’s use of eminent domain to put the widow on the street, tear down her house and get rich was the single most disturbing/negative thing they had learned about him. The ad was in heavy rotation. Who knows how many thousands of votes it cost Trump.

Did any of them bother to ask Carson? I read where they reported this at a caucus where Carson's wife was present.

And where was Ben Carson? Home, changing his clothes?

I don't have anything really against the guy. If he was a next door neighbor, I'd hand him and his wife a key to my house. Need a few eggs? There's the refrigerator. Short a half-cup of sugar or flour? Here's the cabinet where I put that kind of thing. Your plumbing backed up -- or have too many house guests and need to take a shower, or do a load of laundry and all your own facilities are on the fritz or else being used to maximum --- then make yourselves at home. I wouldn't even need to mention things like -- just don't be going around opening drawers and closets in bedrooms. He's the sort who I think could be trusted in that way. I'd be willing to risk it, with both him, and his wife.

But still, Look. It's obvious enough that he's not going to get the nomination, isn't it?

I imagine that's part of why the Cruz team fell for the CNN false announcement that Ben would be packing it in. Because it made some amount of sense, albeit otherwise far too soon. It's like they believed it because it sounded like a heaven-sent windfall. Look who it hurt the most. Both of the most genuinely "Christian" GOP nomination candidates (from among those much presently in the running). I won't go so far as to credit/blame David Axlerod for this, but I'm sure he'd be smiling if he were to read some (the majority!) of the comments on this thread.

If it wasn't just a mistake on someone at CNN's part, I can't help but think it was a deliberate trap set by Dem Party political operatives feeding CNN (from the inside, most likely)--- and here on this thread we have literally dozens of people blaming Cruz, calling him names, saying they'll never vote for him, that he's a liar, blah, blah, blah.

Even though it's known the GOPe will try to push Rubio -- what are the majority of the people on this thread doing but HELPING THAT EFFORT by tearing down Cruz.

My question is this. After Cruz spread the lie about Carson — CRUZ knowing that it wasn’t true and speakers were denied speaking time “ because your candidate has withdrawn” and voters left or voted for someone else — how many thousands of Carson votes fraudulently diverted? I think this will be remembered a long time with the flier that told old people they were in VIOLATION of the voting laws!! Even after Mrs Carson was yelling that he has “NOT WITHDRAWN” at her caucus— they went ahead. Did you know that Cruz had 12,000 vote from out of state?
I heard Dr. Carson on hannity radio. HE DID NOT ACCEPT THIS PARSED “Apology” . But he did take it as an admission of “sleezy politics”. Cruz is finished before the Courts got to his being “FOREIGN BORN”.
