Twenty-two veterans organizations are about to receive a hefty infusion of cash, thanks to Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and his long-simmering fight with Fox News.
The GOP front-runner, who hosted his own event in Des Moines, Iowa after boycotting the Republican debate just three miles down the road, announced Thursday that he had raised $6 million to donate to veterans groups. Trump donated $1 million of his own money to the cause.

I was happy to see at least 2 groups address veteran homelessness.
2 of those charities are DAV groups, and the DAV is awesome. I give to them regularly. Gary Sinese works with them.
But I’ve seen library cartoons saying he did terrible raising money for vet groups...and one said it ALL went to wounded warrior. What’s up with that?
Dittos to the no dough for the WWP.
Great list, The Donald gave well.
Most likely Trump discovered Wounded Warrior 60% went to admin. The vets got screwed. Thus Trump determined it was a scam/ lousy return to the vets.
See for yourself! Looks like United Way on steroids to me!
The Wounded Warrior Project, the charity for wounded veterans, has been placed on Charity Navigator's watch list over accusations of using donor money toward excessive spending on conferences and parties instead of on recovery programs, according to CBS News.
Way overhead heavy. I read it was something like 40% expenses. That is way too rich for my blood.
Thanks NKP_Vet.
For the charities and those they help, though, it is significant, I am sure.
I think he was talking about Wounded Warrior Project, not about Trump.
yup, see post #21
Years ago, my wife and I were on vacation at Pismo Beach, Ca., and the Wounded Warriors rode their bikes down and up big Sur to get there. They stayed at the same place we were staying at.
We talked to the originator at that time. If our memory is correct, he was a Marine and wounded in service. At that time he said over 90% of the funds raised went to the WWers and events like that bike ride to raise awareness.
I believe that the originator died and the problems started after his death.
Last year my Norton Safe Search caught a similar labeled organization as a not safe site to be on or to donate too, after I got an email from them. I confronted the guy with that so called charity. He said that it would be taken care of. I never received any more emails from the guy or the site.
Liz is the FR expert on bad charities.
Deception is so bad in many charities. We now only donate to our local Salvation Army and our church. We have many friends on the local SA board and as past board members.
Trump has a unique NY way to correcting the bastards where ever they are.
Same here....Salvation Army helps vets.....and others down on their luck.
Glad to see DAV on the list.
Glad to see Trump is funding the smaller, more responsive direct action groups in addition to the time-tested DAV.
Salvation Army is always a safe bet, they do the most good.
The Salvation Army also takes household items, clothing and such, that they sell to raise funds.
Some S/A units in urban areas also provide meals to the less fortunate.
