Calhoun (County, Iowa) Severe Watches & Warnings
Watches & Warnings
Blizzard Watch
Statement as of 3:48 AM CST on January 31, 2016

... Blizzard watch in effect from late Monday night through late Tuesday night...

The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a blizzard watch... which is in effect from late Monday night through late Tuesday night.

* Timing... snow will lift into the area late Monday night into Tuesday morning. A brief break in the snow may occur before resuming Tuesday afternoon and night. A period of very heavy snow may occur with snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour possible. Strong and gusty northeast winds will develop by Tuesday and will create considerable blowing and drifting of snow and potential whiteout conditions.

* Storm total snow... storm total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches are expected within the heaviest band of snow.

* Winds/visibility... northeast winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts in excess of 40 mph. Visibilities in snow and blowing snow will be below one quarter mile with whiteout conditions possible.

* Impacts... extremely hazardous travel conditions may develop. Travel may become nearly impossible at times. If you have travel plans during this time... consider alternative plans.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A blizzard watch means there is a potential for falling and/or blowing snow with strong winds and extremely poor visibilities. This can lead to whiteout conditions and make travel very dangerous.

Again, I’m no longer in the GOP. Which liberal they nominate is not up to me.

I’m just relaying the weather information about their caucuses because I know there are so many here who still care about the subject.

As far as I’m concerned personally, it can snow four feet by supper time on Monday and it won’t matter. I’ve got plenty of firewood, two full freezers, and a root cellar full of produce. :-)

Maybe Cruz planned to have Trump ahead in the polls by now so that his supporters assume he's going to win and therefore feel they are safe staying home to avoid the snow. Cruz had to do a little worse in the debate and send out the scary mailer to get him down in the polls a little to have this effect. Then the Trumpsters stay home and he can have a blow-out.

Even if I intended to vote for nobody, I’d still show up and cast an empty ballot.

Not that that would help me with my elected officials. They already know who I am without looking me up. I’m that troublemaker.

If you want a third party to win, you can go and caucus for the weakest candidate so you have a designated loser against your guy. Jeb or Hillary.

Maybe Bernie can promise free snow for everyone that votes for him.

In any event, there will be no snow. Global warming will see to that.

Apparently the caucus don’t keep voting records. I know the primaries do in PA, but an article yesterday said the caucuses don’t.

Even if I intended to vote for nobody, I’d still show up and cast an empty ballot.

I'm no longer a Republican, and I have no intention of ever being one again. So, they wouldn't let me vote anyhow. ;-)

Sounds a bit convoluted. Does Cruz do convolution?

Nah. I don't play those kind of games.

Until the caucuses are over, arguing with certain Freepers is a waste of time...

As someone who spent several years in the far hinterlands north of Iowa, a forecast like this meant only one thing...get to a liquor store now!

Sounds like they need to store emergency supplies at the Caucus sites. And then just have a

big 3 day caucus/blizzard party blow out!!!

Well, my experience over years has been that wunderground is incredibly accurate. And they’ve got the snow starting up right at 7 pm where I live in Calhoun County.

This will be fun to follow. Even the know-it-all pundits acknowledge that they just don't know, with this new cadre of voters.

Could it favor Trump because of the bond with each other of standing in long lines and attending rallies together?
