... Blizzard watch in effect from late Monday night through late Tuesday night...

The National Weather Service in Des Moines has issued a blizzard watch... which is in effect from late Monday night through late Tuesday night.

* Timing... snow will lift into the area late Monday night into Tuesday morning. A brief break in the snow may occur before resuming Tuesday afternoon and night. A period of very heavy snow may occur with snowfall rates of 1 to 2 inches per hour possible. Strong and gusty northeast winds will develop by Tuesday and will create considerable blowing and drifting of snow and potential whiteout conditions.

* Storm total snow... storm total snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches are expected within the heaviest band of snow.

* Winds/visibility... northeast winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts in excess of 40 mph. Visibilities in snow and blowing snow will be below one quarter mile with whiteout conditions possible.

* Impacts... extremely hazardous travel conditions may develop. Travel may become nearly impossible at times. If you have travel plans during this time... consider alternative plans.

Precautionary/preparedness actions...

A blizzard watch means there is a potential for falling and/or blowing snow with strong winds and extremely poor visibilities. This can lead to whiteout conditions and make travel very dangerous.

Groundhog Day blizzard to whip Colorado to Iowa, Wisconsin

Snow and slippery travel over the central United States will evolve into dangerous blizzard conditions spanning the first part of the coming week, including Groundhog Day.

A storm will strengthen and gather snow and wind as it tracks across the Southwest states into Monday to the central Plains and Upper Midwest during Monday night into Tuesday night.

The storm will put down snow along a 1,600-mile swath in the U.S. from Flagstaff, Arizona, to Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan.

According to AccuWeather Meteorologist Brett Rathbun, "A swath of 6- to 12-inch snowfall with localized areas of 12-18 inches are likely from parts of Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Colorado to portions of Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa, Wisconsin, northern Michigan and southern Minnesota."

If you don’t vote, politicians don’t care about you.

As we’ve all witnessed in the last 24 hrs, your voting record is public information. Not who you voted for, but that you voted, or not.

Most politicians have the most up to date voting rolls at their fingertips. It’s why their staff asks you your zip code when you call. They aren’t typing in what you’re saying, they’re looking you up to see if your opinion matters, to see if you vote, or even better, donate.

There’s a pecking order to being heard when you contact elected officials:

Donor.
Voter.
Lives in District (potential voter if I help you with constituent services).
Nobody.

If you’re calling to complain, and you’re not one of those first 2, who cares?

If you don’t vote, your opinion doesn’t count. Politicians don’t listen to non-voters; that’s a waste of time. Sad; true.

That said, be careful in the weather tomorrow.

It will be very interesting to see the results. I would love Bernie Sanders to trounce Hillary, but the articles I’ve read say that’s unlikely because his supporters are concentrated in districts with college campuses.

Steve Deace is saying if the turnout predicted in the polls happens, they simply won’t have the infrastructure to handle it. I wonder if that could slow people finishing and getting home before the storm.

How does you not voting change the direction the country goes? One of the candidates you would have voted for is still going to win.

I didn’t say I wasn’t going to vote.

I’m just not voting in the GOP process. They’ve screwed me and my country over too many times. I’m done with them.

My focus is now on making sure there is a real conservative to vote for in the general election.

Folks need to hurry up and get over the false notion that these two corrupt parties are the only choices, before it’s too late.
