AMES, Iowa -- Oscar-winning actor Richard Dreyfuss - star of Jaws and Mr. Holland's Opus - was on hand, somewhat inexplicably. He quietly nabbed a reserved front-row seat as Cruz made his own entrance...

I guess ya never too old to change!

Trump completely changed all his political opinions when he was almost 70 years old!

From 2008:

http://crooksandliars.com/2008/08/28/richard-dreyfuss-calls-out-bush-mccain-and-their-corrupt-republican-party

Richard Dreyfuss, appearing on MSNBC to discuss the new documentary he narrates, America Betrayed, on Hurricane Katrina, the worst man-made disaster in American history, seized the opportunity in front of a cheering crowd of onlookers to blast George W. Bush and the Republican party for all the damage they have inflicted upon this country over the last 8 years.

Dreyfuss: I don’t think the Europeans have any confidence in our government. I think that the last eight years has destroyed two hundred years of respect and dedication. And I think we have been the point of meaning and admiration in the world for very specific reasons, and George Bush trashed it.

O’Donnell: So, you don’t think that John McCain would be able to manage this government well, would have a different response than George Bush to a Hurricane Katrina?

Dreyfuss: I think the Republican party is corrupt through and through. And even the republicans like Buckley before he died said ‘we should lose this election, go into the wilderness, and get cleansed’, and I believe that’s true. I think that they have been in office too long. I think that they are too adept at thievery, at moving the Constitution into places it never meant to go. I think that they have an extraordinary ability to divide rather than unite. And I think that I’m tired of being called a traitor, because I like my flag and I support the troops.

Read that last sentence again:

“I think that they have been in office too long. I think that they are too adept at thievery, at moving the Constitution into places it never meant to go. I think that they have an extraordinary ability to divide rather than unite. And I think that I’m tired of being called a traitor, because I like my flag and I support the troops.”

This sounds like the dems now, and he uttered those words, voting for Obama. Obama is worse in this regard than Bush ever was.

Now he’s in Cruz’s camp?

What happened?

Richard Dreyfus', Sarah Palin's, CNN's, or opinion on a candidate has no affect on mine.

I vote for the most conservative candidate and his dedication to constitutional principles. Everytime. Without variation based on popularity or his ability to toss off a zippy quip.

It keeps my political conscience clear and unmuddied.

Yeah, me too.
The conservatives in Hollywood stick out because there are so few.
He was never one of them.

This really is a shock. Back in the 80s, Dreyfus was as liberal as anyone could be.

He still is - and a 'Feel The Bern' type........I don't go to "links", so didn't read the piece, but I did see him doing a sit-down on TV this morning.......he's still as left as you can get, but I could tell he's got a quite muddled brainset these days - Oldtimers Disease....shaky and stuttery...and he owns vacant lot a few hundred yards down from he == hope he sells!

He has always been a first class actor and when he commented on political issues, he was thoughtful and reasoned. I am surprised to here he seems to be tilting conservative, maybe he finally recognized the inconsistency and intellectual bankruptcy of the various forms of liberalism/ socialism.

I hadn't thought about Let It Ride in years, what a great and funny film.

Dreyfuss is 68.

His mother was a peace activist.

He is diagnosed as having bi-polar disorder.

He has been married three (gasp!) times.

If you haven’t seen “Moon over Parador”, I think it is one of his best films.

"We come at it from different places. But he reveres the Constitution and the Bill of Rights. When you seek to be the president of a country that has 300 million people, you can't get everyone on the same platform. You can't. But if you can make it clear that the most important things are shared, then fine."

Fair enough!

I met Richard at CPAC several years ago. It seems he has a constitution project and he regularly seeks support at these kinds of events.

If Dreyfuss was that wrong in 2008, what makes anyone think he is any better at picking a winner now?

Who cares what these Hollywood has-beens think anyway?

More likely, it is a bad omen. You don’t want this guy on your team.

I thought he wasn’t getting many roles because of his hammy over acting but it is his party affiliation. If he pulls a Mel Gibson he may never work again.
