Trump debate withdrawal is backfiring big-time on Fox News
The Washington Post ^ | January 27th, 2016 | By Erik Wemple

Donald Trump’s criticisms of Megyn Kelly have been weak, sexist, thin-skinned. His decision to back out of Thursday night’s debate is childish and reflects a fear of having to debate his competitors on issues facing the country.

All that said, this dispute is turning into a spectacle with two losers. Fox News unwisely sent out a statement yesterday designed to mock the Republican front-runner for his decision to launch a Twitter poll on whether he should participate in the debate. Here’s what that statement said:

We learned from a secret back channel that the Ayatollah and Putin both intend to treat Donald Trump unfairly when they meet with him if he becomes president — a nefarious source tells us that Trump has his own secret plan to replace the Cabinet with his Twitter followers to see if he should even go to those meetings.

On CNN’s “New Day” this morning, co-host Alisyn Camerota, who formerly worked at Fox News, espied certain fingerprints on that statement: “God, this is such typical Roger Ailes playbook. I worked for him for many years; I recognize this.”

Other pundits recognize it as well — and they’re using it to aver that Trump has some firm footing in bailing on Fox News. Firm footing that he’d never have otherwise.

Fox is being challenged when Trump says “they are not fair and balanced” when Fox constantly says they are fair and balanced. Fox is suppose to be fair and balanced and unafraid. Is Meg Kelly File fair and balanced or is she putting us on? Bret Baier seems to be the one fair and balanced person on the stage.

She has lived on the east coast most of her life. The water helps her legs support her immense weight. I read about this in a dinosaur book when I was little.

Fox needs to try ‘triangulation’. I’ve dealt with similar personality types before, on a much, much smaller scale.
All Fox needs to do is to designate either Ted Cruz or Marco Rubio as the new ‘KING’ of the outsiders, and the only one Fox can consider supporting. Give this new ‘King’ the coveted center spot during debates. Feed him softball questions, fall in love with his family. Dramatically minimize any mention or camera view showing (the now ‘irrelevant) Donald Trump.

Have Megyn REJOICE that this man (Mr. X.) is in the race ‘for all of us!”. Have Megyn flirt on the air with this guy, once, twice, maybe three times.
I can almost guarantee, Trump will be wanting to sign any check, (ANY AMOUNT!!!) to get back on the air during a Fox Debate. When this happens, Fox must delay any response at all. for about three weeks. Ratings would ‘necessarily skyrocket!’.

Trump really dodged one, two young millenial-ish women of minority status, gunning for him with what would doubtless be inarticulate emotional arguments and personal attacks. Anyone ambushed that way would have been pissed and you can bet they’d be allowed to smear and mischaracterize him to no end but every word he said in response would be analyzed and critiqued.

So why are they pulling out all the stops now? Because everyone realizes that Trump can win Iowa, WILL win NH and SC, and from then on it’s a straight march to the nomination. What will they do now, start cheering for Cruz?

I’ve liked some of Eric’s writing in the past, but not one part of the above introductory paragraph is even remotely true.

“That chick is dying for someone to bang her.”

That’s kinda mean. If you do her family will have to kill her to restore their honor.

Trump may not like the owner of Fox and now Ailes is in the middle of the food fight. Trump is the star and he may walk out hurting the ratings. We may never know the true reasons.

Oh, I doubt that FNC is bothered by any so called backlash. They just took my advice and trumped Trump.

I agree Bret Baier is good . Didn’t Megan have Michael Moore on her show , were she was gushing over him and then shook his hand ? Megan is a Liberal Feminist smear-job artist

The Washington Post says this is backfiring on FOX? The Post? Well my God this must be true. The Post bashing FOX? Who ever heard of such a thing? You must feel like Woodward and Bernstein bringing such a thing to light.

Lots of so called “smart republicans” have underestimated Trump this far. Why should anyone listen to some of these people who have a bad track record in the past? This is not like any campaign in the past. Lets watch it play out and get past the b.s.

Megan doesn’t sound very bright tonight. Some Fox gals look like old High School cheerleaders who have lots of make up and looks but do not always understand the game.

There is a lot at stake ... most of those “republicans” are for unlimited open-borders and bad trade deals ... Trump will stop it , so they must stop him
