Obama addresses Oscar controversy
The Hill ^ | 1/27/16 | Harper Neidig

Posted on 01/27/2016 5:57:19 PM PST by Libloather

President Obama on Wednesday said movies will be better if they represent everyone's stories, for the first time weighing in on the lack of black nominees at the Oscars.

"I think that California is an example of the incredible diversity of this country," Obama said during a series of interviews with local news stations. "That's a strength. I think that when everyone's story is told then that makes for better art."

"It makes for better entertainment it makes everybody feel part of one American family, so I think as a whole the industry should do what every other industry should do which is to look for talent, provide opportunity to everybody. And I think the Oscar debate is really just an expression of this broader issue. Are we making sure that everybody is getting a fair shot?"

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has drawn heavy criticism due to the all-white cast of nominees for the acting categories in this year's Oscars. All 20 acting nominees are white men and women.

Academy president Cheryl Boone Isaacs has vowed to address the issue, saying in a statement that the organization will be "taking dramatic steps to alter the makeup of our membership."

Democratic presidential front-runner Hillary Clinton also weighed in on the controvery on Wednesday, calling the reforms "long overdue."

"Just think of the great films that really display not just the diversity of America, but the diversity of the human experience," Clinton said, "and therefore the Academy has to catch up with our reality."

Only four “I”s in the first five sentences. That’s a record.

well, the advertisers and schools and companies and who knows what else dont want Jessa Jacksone and Al (I cant read worth a dam) Sharpton all over them.

but with such black movie contributions as Madea’s Family Reunion, they won’t stay down for long.

So they should nominate inferior movies and actors just because they are black? Well, it does fit into his affirmative action presidency.

Hmmmm. Just a thought. Did he bother to google Cheryl Boone Isaac who is the head cheese at the oscar board? Looks ‘diverse’ to me.

I’m surprised he didn’t fuel up AF1 and jet out to Cali to investigate the situation himself. What a narcissistic POS.

Well since O got in the WH, pbs has been showing a ton of: 1. Overtly Communistic “news and analysis” programs , 2. Propaganda about how wonderful and blessed and peaceable islamics are. And 3. All sorts of rehashings about the slavery of the 1700’s (but never mentioning it was largely Muslims who captured and sold the blacks ). Go figure. I can’t It does seem a rather pernicious redirection of our tax money, tho

Black Power A Done Deal

Scurrilous Commentary by Fred Reed

"It is curious that blacks, the least educated thirteen percent of the population, the least productive, most criminal, and most dependent on governmental charity, should dominate national politics. Yet they do. Virtually everything revolves around what blacks want, demand, do, or can't do. Their power seems without limit."

"Courses of instruction in the schools, academic rigor, codes of dress, rules regarding unceasing obscenity, all must be set to suit them, as must be examinations for promotion in fire departments, the military, and police forces. Blacks must be admitted to universities for which they are not remotely qualified, where departments of Black Studies must be established to please them. Corporate work forces, federal departments, and elite high-schools must be judged not on whether they perform their functions but on whether they have the right number of blacks."

"Do laws requiring identification to vote threaten to end multiple voting? The laws must go. Do blacks not like Confederate flags? Adieu, flags. Does Huckleberry Finn go down the Mississippi with the Nigger Jim, or Conrad write The Nigger of the Narcissus? These must be banned or expurgated to please blacks who haven't read them or, usually, heard of them. Do we want to prevent people coming from regions infested with Ebola from entering the United States? We cannot. It would offend blacks."

"We must never, ever say or do anything that might upset them, as virtually everything does. It is positively astonishing. One expects the rich and smart to have disproportionate power. But America is dominated from the slums."

I never notice whether an actor matches my eye color, and I wouldn’t care if I did notice. My reaction to skin color is the same. People liked the Cosby Show because (1) it was about a pretty normal family where their skin color was not relevant to the script, and (2) we didn’t know Cosby was a predator.

I would not watch any show where the characters thought their skin color was important, whether white supremacists or #BlackThugsMatter. I’ll be grateful when we move past this obsession with race and “diversity” and focus on the content of a person’s character over the color of their skin.

Reality in our house is that we will not watch the Academy awards and we will not be going to any more of their trashy movies. Too many good movies available from other sources that we can watch in our own home, the popcorn costs a whole lot less, we can wear our pj’s to the showing and we can hit the pause button when anyone needs to take a break for a few minutes.

Gee, I sure hope no conservative officials or candidates weigh in on this non-issue. It’s embarrassing that anyone (national leader and a hopeful) other than local industry types think this is important.

i walked out on three movies in one year because of the liberal slant and haven’t gone since.

i watched the Academy Awards for the FIRST time this past year because i was SURE there would at least be a mention of thanks regarding American Sniper.

instead i had to sit through garbage and nonsense, and there was nothing. NEVER again.

it’s viewings go down more and more each year
