This will be a continuous LIVE THREAD of Donald Trump's two Iowa rallys today. The first will be in Marshalltown, IA @ 5:00 (CST) @ Marshalltown Community School District - Roundhouse Gymnasium.
The second in Iowa City at 7:00 (CST) @ the University of Iowa Field House.
You should be able access both Live Threads at the same URL, but other links will be posted here before and during the events.
Many times the best feed is the HD one from FOX10 Phoenix.
Marshall is no exception. According to Wikipedia Henry Anson was the first European settler in what is now called Marshalltown.
In April 1851, Anson found what he described as âthe prettiest place in Iowa.â On a high point between the Iowa River and Linn Creek, Anson built a log cabin. A plaque at 112 West Main Street marks the site of the cabin. In 1853 Anson named the town Marshall, after Marshall, Michigan, a former residence of his.
Adrian Constantine "Cap" Anson, son of Henry and Jennette Anson, was the first European child born in the new pioneer town and is today known as Marshalltownâs âfirst sonâ. Adrian became a Major League Baseball player and was inducted into the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 1939. He was regarded as one of the greatest players of his era and one of the first superstars of the game. To this day Marshalltown is a big baseball town.
Some famous sons are Billy Sunday the evangelist (and baseball player for the Chicago White Sox)
Another favorite son is Jerry Burke. For three points today who was Jerry Burke? Here's his photo.
Iowa City
The Census Bureau estimated the 2014 population at 73,415, making it the fifth-largest city in the state. Home of the Iowa Hawkeyes.
A lot of famous people from here. Grant Wood, Dan Gable, (has he endorsed Trump?), Bob Barr.
Answer to question. Jerry Burke was the piano organ player on Lawrence Welk. My mother loved him.
Oops! Adrian Anson played for the Chicago White Stockings, not Billy Sunday.
So did mine Dad would tape the Larenence Welk program every week and take the tape to the care facility who took care of mom. Each night after dinner they would watch the same show. Because of the dementia it was new to her each night. During the day the staff played the show repeatedly for the other residents. It was always a big hit. REPEATEDLY!
Interesting. My hubby hails from Fort Madison. His family (grandparents) however, arrived on the boat from Germany. I’m a Kansas gal born and bred, family mostly from the south has been on American shores since before the Revolution. ( Budding genealogist here...... :) )
Yogurt Marinated Mango Chicken Curry over Citrus Cilantro Rice, with Naan Bread, and a Side Salad.
Marshalltown also has the famous trowel factory. I have a couple.
In before the ZOT.
My uncle, aunt and cousins lived in Marshalltown, IA years ago. My uncle worked for Fisher Manufacturing (valves, etc.) I visited them there once, but don’t recall the city and I’m sure it has changed a lot since then.
My dad was born and raised in Iowa and we used to visit my grandparents there. Interesting to see the various towns Trump is traveling to.
Nikos - thanks again for these threads and the history of the towns. I’ve been reading the threads (though sometimes it’s after the event, so don’t usually post much) and enjoying the comments and dinner menus - and trying to watch the speeches as I can.
I can usually find your threads on the sidebar, but would appreciate it if you would put me on your ping list.
Best,
SC
"[T]ed Cruz lies," Trump said. "He's a liar. That's why nobody likes him, that's why his Senate people won't endorse him. That's why he stands in the middle of the Senate floor and can't make a deal with anybody. He looks like a jerk, he's standing all by himself. And you know, there's something to say about having a little bit of ability to get other people to do things. You can't be a lone wolf and stand there. That's sort of what we have right now as a president. We have a president that can't get anything done so he just keeps be signing executive orders all over the place."
I stood with Ted Cruz when no one else would.
Trump will need to write a new book if elected, 'The Art of Compromise'.
We'll just have to hide & watch to see how that works for him.
Posted on yesterday’s thread that I heard Trump on Morning Joe say he has powerful endorsement coming later today. Nikos and I are thinking maybe it’s Jeff Sessions? We will have to wait and see tonight :)

Thanks for the ping. Have to drive to town today, hopefully I will be back in time to watch live.
Anyone listen to Glen Beck this morning? Five minutes of non stop recordings of Trump saying his usual outrageous but blunt New Yorker things that go back not only from recent but years ago. And all the time you can hear Beck and the to sycophants in the background snickering.
Trump is like MOST AMERICANS, who are naïve in their Christian faith. I count myself one of them. I don’t attend Sunday services any more as much as used too. I try to on Christmas and Easter. I don’t repent etc.
Beck is making fun of the man...it’s disgusting.
I hold no brief for Beck, but c'mon! Pot meet kettle.
Thanks for the ping and times. Much appreciated
Read the book THE LAST FARMER by Howard Kohn. It describes and gives great details of the German farmers in Flyover country.
Kohn was an editor for Rolling Stone magazine. He returns to family farm after divorce First part of the book is rather slow. I kept thinking -— Oh that interesting SO .... But the impact it had on my life and appreciation of ancestors is unlimited
I’ve bought over a dozen copies. Loan it and it gets passed on to others and others.
One of the very best non fiction books ever !
Marshalltown has a population of less than 30,000. With that and the 26 deg weather today would love to see later what the turnout is.
Any ideas on where turnout info can be found afterwards of any rally? Apparently we can’t trust the largest newspaper in Iowa - the Register.
