The Republican National Committee has dumped National Review from the Feb. 25 GOP debate after the magazine published a scathing editorial against Donald Trump.
RNC Spokesman Sean Spicer told Buzzfeed News that the magazine was dumped as a sponsor of the debate in Houston, saying "a debate moderator can't have a predisposition."
Jack Fowler, publisher of National Review, wrote a short blog item late Thursday:
"Tonight, a top official with the RNC called me to say that National Review was being disinvited. The reason: Our 'Against Trump' editorial and symposium. We expected this was coming. Small price to pay for speaking the truth about The Donald."
The Houston debate was already the subject of controversy earlier this week when the RNC dumped NBC as broadcaster in the wake of the much-criticized Oct. 28 debate aired by NBC's CNBC cable network.
The RNC replaced NBC with CNN as the broadcaster and changed the date from Feb. 26 to Feb. 25.
With National Review dropped from the debate, CNN's remaining partners are Salem Radio and Telemundo.
The magazine Thursday night posted online its editorial outlining why Donald Trump is "a menace to conservatism," along with essays from 22 conservative leaders arguing that Trump is not fit to lead the nation. It also will be in the conservative journal's Feb. 15 print edition, which goes to press Wednesday.

They are hardly a balanced voice.
And considering Kelly’s anti-Trump screed last night, perhaps they could disinvite her, too, from the 28 Jan debate?
Replace her with Harris Faulkner. She’s a better journalist, anyway.
NR has 115,000 subscribers nationally.
Donald J. Trump â @realDonaldTrump
The late, great, William F. Buckley would be ashamed of what had happened to his prize, the dying National Review!
Like all the old media, it is dying.
That makes sense.
However regardless of Trump’s hissy fit on Kelly he will be facing off with her in another debate, and I hope she asks him lots of questions that he hates.
You sure saw that exchange differently than I did.
I thought Kelly was far worse than anything that NBC did in their debate.
She didn’t ask a trustworthy question the entire night.
Kelly should not be allowed to moderate a debate involving Trump. If I were Trump I would skip the Fox News debate.
In response to the NRO article on this topic that appeared here on FR last night, being unable to stop myself from piling on, I ventured over to NRO and left this comment.
I wouldn’t have come over here to NRO but this article was too much to pass up. While I’m here, and since there are articles all over the place about NR’s poor judgement with this ludicrous “special edition” I figured I’d add my $.02 and repost what I said about you clowns over on gateway pundit.
I used to read the NR online until it became so blatantly obvious that they despise Donald Trump, whom I intend to vote for. Because of that, about the only time I still visit that site is if there’s an article by VDH that I’m interested in. Other than that, I’ve pretty much stopped going there and I sure as hell won’t buy this “special edition” they’re putting out.
I no longer care about what Kristol, Krauthammer, Hayes, Barnes or any of the others over there have to say. In my view, their opinions are clouded by their love of the beltway, the cocktail parties and business as usual in the District of Criminals.
I don’t need or want to hear what they have to say because it’s become obvious to me, I’m not in their target audience.
Do you think fox is already in the tank for trump and might tell Kelly to reel it in?
Although in the past Kelly used to take my breath away, right now Faulkner's prettier than Kelly, too.
:>)
You’ll be voting for him.
He’s the inevitable candidate. Cruz is losing big time you know.
And she does such a good interview.
No, Kelly will try every trick she knows to bring down Trump. As will the others. Trump will attend and it will be another ambush. At least this time he knows all the moderators are out to get him.
This is staged— I assure you. These Rino Neocons have gone unhinged. I think they are driving millions of voters to Trump.
I hope she brings up the things he supported BEFORE he decided to sell himself to Republicans. He can't get away with saying "I had an Epiphany" on everything he's flip-flopped on - from his support for universal health care to his wanting to nationalize the banks.
No kid gloves for anyone, Kelly. Draw them ALL out. Let's see their true colors.
I want My GYN there so Trump can humiliate her again. She is a paid Rino hack. I don’t watch her any more.
Staged by who? (whom...but forgive me...it sounds so ‘proper’.)
I agree that they’re unhinged, and I agree that they’re driving people away from them, anyway.
The real problem is that Cruz played his hand badly, Bush is still holding his momma’s hand, Rubio’s hands are doing magic tricks, and Kasich’s hands have been shipped to NH where they’ll stay in deep freeze until spring.
Honestly, they lost. Trump won.
And, of course, I’ll eat my hat if it comes out differently, but at some point in time, it’s hard to imagine ALL polling firms in conspiracy to advance the cause of one Donald Trump.
I watched her attack piece with Brent Bozell against Trump last night.
Lady still has blood in her eyes.
I think she’s mad as hell that he scored a KO against her last time, and she’s gonna climb in that ring again, and....
Get her bell rung
