Byron York: Trump slams Cruz in first attack ad ($2M Ad Buy)
http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/article/2581173?platform=hootsuite ^

There have been a lot of negative ads flying around in the Republican presidential campaign, but none of them from Donald Trump -- until now. On Friday morning, the Trump campaign will unveil its first attack ad of the race, targeted at closest GOP rival Ted Cruz on the issue of immigration.

The 60-second ad, entitled "Clear Difference," has no narration. Instead, it is built on clips of what was perhaps Cruz's weakest moment in the campaign so far -- his halting and defensive interview last month with Fox News anchor Bret Baier concerning Cruz's efforts to amend the Gang of Eight comprehensive immigration reform bill back in 2013.

"It sounded like you wanted the bill to pass," Baier said to Cruz in the December 16 interview.

Cruz, normally the smoothest of communicators, stumbled as he searched for an answer. "Eh, of course I wanted the bill to pass, uh, my amendment to pass…"

It was a particularly damaging moment -- and material for future attack ads -- because the Gang of Eight bill was anathema to a significant portion of the Republican base when it was under consideration in the Senate, and is perhaps even more so today.

The ad later cuts to clips of Cruz in 2013, proposing his amendments, which would have taken away a path to citizenship but left intact the Gang of Eight's provision to legalize millions of currently illegal immigrants. "I want immigration reform to pass," Cruz said back then, "and that allows those who are here illegally to come in out of the shadows."

Trump is a big government progressive with nativist overtones. I have no problem with the nativism part.

Conservatives who support him now will end up hating him if he’s elected.

Mark my words.

I’m all for enforcing current immigration law.

That would stop the flow if taken seriously.

Letting the “good ones” back in is also pardoning those who broke the law.

We both know no one is going to deport 20 to 30 million illegals. The only way to have a shot at is self deporting them by prosecuting their employers and not letting them legally own property here. Trump said that was “mean spirited” back in 2012.

Very, very naive. None of the other “issues” matter if we don’t stop the invasion. Build the wall says Trump. Why is that so hard to understand?

Trump says build wall and then give all you find inside amnesty. Naive is thinking you can really build an impervious wall. Build a wall and continue to deport those found here illegally is the best solution.

Trump's way has us spending time and money in courts while illegals try to claim they were "here before the wall, but were in the shadows and can't prove it", therefore they deserve the amnesty he is proposing.

I bet Limbaugh is rolling on the floor over the Levin connection with Cruz.

No. It’s called “a shot across the bow.” You know how the oligarchy rulers always state how they have the greatest confidence in so and so just before they finger them to take the fall. My guess is that when Mitch’s term is up during Trump’s presidency, he gets a primary like he never dreamt possible. Syonara amigo and all that jazz.

"Mark Levin has admitted his fiancee has a son who works for Cruz."

Incestuous politics is ok as long as you keep it in the family.

how is he gonna build the wall when Congress will do everything they can to stop him? (and they will)..

With a pen and a phone? I love the idea of actually building the wall, but the president is not a dictator. we have one that thinks he is now, I don’t think we need another.

The main thing that must be done is not only a president that is with us on the issues (trump acts like he is, I am not convinced given his past statements that it will hold true) and a congress that believes in the same mission.

Trump or Cruz in the white house we will still need to deliver a congress that will pass the bills that lead to things like a wall, lower taxes, less regulation and the elimination of departments.

short of that, if Trump acts on his own with his own pen and a phone we will still have a dictator. Just one we happen to agree with.

You do know Bob Dole just endorsed Trump, right? I think it safe to say Sen Dole is senior member of the Establishment you say fears Trump.

Levin is spinning a bs story about it being from a campaign. Some reporter probably found out and was goimg to run it. So Levin gets in front by disclosing it and conveniently says someone is digging into his background and he’s going to get to the bottom of it. Levin has been exposed as a complete fraud.

Cruz on the supreme is the best place for him if he doesn’t win the election.

I'm pretty sure Trump already said his sister would be a "phenomenal" SC justice, so you can rule out anyone that's conservative if Trump wins.

That’s not what Trump said. Those who are deported, then come back in legally have no need for the amnesty Trump talked about. They are now here legally. Who needs the amnesty he talked about?

Actually Dole supports Jeb. He simply said that if it were down to Cruz or Trump, he would go with the Trump as long as Trump did his best to destroy the conservatives.

Not same result, moron. There is a difference between legal and illegal. That’s been Trump’s mantra since June 16th.

Sundance reports, now, that Mark Levin has admitted that his fiancée has a son who works for Cruz. Levin will pay $5000.00 to find out who leaked it.

And there it is. Political incest between the press (if Levin qualifies for that) and the political class.

Now, is it dishonorable that Levin's fiancee's son is on the Cruz campaign? No. But isn't it interesting that he never disclosed it to his listening audience?
