National Review, the conservative magazine founded by William F. Buckley, will publish a special issue on Friday opposing Donald Trump's bid for the presidency, according to a source with knowledge of the issue's contents.
The issue will feature a blistering editorial that labels Trump a threat to conservatism, as well as essays by 22 prominent conservative thinkers from various ideological factions, in opposition to Trump's candidacy, the source said.
"Donald Trump is a menace to American conservatism who would take the work of generations and trample it underfoot on behalf of a populism as heedless and crude as The Donald himself," the editorial states.
The issue, first reported by Jonathan Martin of The New York Times, comes as conservative pundits and GOP leaders debate which of the two leading Republican candidates -- Trump and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz -- poses the greater threat to the party.
Rich Lowry, the editor of National Review, spent weeks reaching out to fellow conservatives, ranging from The Weekly Standard's William Kristol to RedState's Erick Erickson, to commission essays for the issue.

Really? Must have missed it and I am usually on here pretty often.....was it on a Glen Beck thread? I usually don’t go to those..... :-(

Because Trump is not a conservative, of any stripe. He could do many very good things for the nation and the anti-Democrat movements, and hopefully tear apart the foundation of the GOPe... but he isn't conservative, and there are many things to worry about if he does take office. He will follow Obama's lead in ignoring the Separation of Powers (he has directly said so); he could start a trend of electing personalities, celebrities, and/or hyper-wealthy folks (most of whom tend to be idiots); he will almost certainly not be a statesman nor a strong diplomat (that mouth and ego cannot handle either); he could easily have many ideas and motivations that would be polar opposites to what we might hope for... and this is kind of the point. We do not know what we might be getting, because he has never been in office and has never worked towards any conservative cause. It is a pig in a poke.
I'll vote for the Donald if Cruz isn't available, but it will be with much trepidation.

Can you take Redstate into the irrelivance abyss with you? Thanks.
I sort of see what’s happened with NR post-Buckley as an analog to what’s happened to WalMart post-Sam.

Yes. Beck retweeted it and it caught on a bit. One of our local radio hosts reposted on FB and he got slammed. He ended up deleting the post without a peep.

This is going to backfire on them.
Too many bad memories of David Frum's "Unpatriotic Conservatives" purge a dozen or so years back.

They aren’t principled. They are children who really don’t like America much and love the open borders crowd like Rubio. If that’s principled, no thanks. I just prefer, “American.”

At least their principled. With Trump I havenât seen people go so gaga over a candidate since Barack Hussein Obama.
I know it hurts to lose, but you should really try to not be so offensive when you post.

Exactly what Mark Steyn wrote today. As I said yesterday, being ideologically pure is ridiculous when the barbarians are at the gates. I’d vote for IA farmers to get subsidies to grow pistachios or pineapples if it results in getting the wall built and stopping Muslim immigration.
