National Review, the conservative magazine founded by William F. Buckley, will publish a special issue on Friday opposing Donald Trump's bid for the presidency, according to a source with knowledge of the issue's contents.
The issue will feature a blistering editorial that labels Trump a threat to conservatism, as well as essays by 22 prominent conservative thinkers from various ideological factions, in opposition to Trump's candidacy, the source said.
"Donald Trump is a menace to American conservatism who would take the work of generations and trample it underfoot on behalf of a populism as heedless and crude as The Donald himself," the editorial states.
The issue, first reported by Jonathan Martin of The New York Times, comes as conservative pundits and GOP leaders debate which of the two leading Republican candidates -- Trump and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz -- poses the greater threat to the party.
Rich Lowry, the editor of National Review, spent weeks reaching out to fellow conservatives, ranging from The Weekly Standard's William Kristol to RedState's Erick Erickson, to commission essays for the issue.

Rich Lowry is no William F. Buckley. I am talking current events not ancient history. When they fired John Derbyshire for telling the truth about race (in another publication) they were dead to me. Buckley never censored ideas like that.
I would want everyone.. media, left, GOP, conservatives.. stop using the word “conservative”. The meaning has so changed and it doesn’t fit today. I so would like to get on Fox and tell them what I think. They keep using arguments that aren’t even in this equation. I can’t argue with their language because none of it is the reason I was going to vote for Trump. Fox and those on Fox needs to get to the reasons Trump is leading.
Part of my words to them are: what in the world did any of you do to stop obama from turning our country into a 3rd world country. You don’t think he did? Well, that right there is the disconnect between you and Trump’s followers. You didn’t do a thing to stop the illegals from coming into our communities. You didn’t do a thing to stop obama from every executive order he ever signed. You didn’t do a thing to stop obama from creating riots.. hating anyone who was not black.. and being the dictator he is.. the person who has ruined so many lives .. you didn’t do a thing because it didn’t effect you. You went home to your gardens and lovely parties.. you were not affected, so you didn’t do squat to stop this dictator.. you even thought he was the most charming man and you let on like he was a normal President. He wasn’t!! and he isn’t!!
You think we’re crazy out here? No, we are seeing our country and our lives being destroyed. Even today, you are allowing a criminal to run for the Democratic ticket... and you are reporting it as usual. You need to go on the warpath with this woman.. you need to put your feet to the fire against obama.. YOU JUST MIGHT HAVE PREVENTED TRUMP FROM BEING THE LEADING CANDIDATE. You are upset? Not half as upset as we are.. for all you didn’t do and all you let stand... because it didn’t matter to you.
SO now we seem to be in the driver’s seat... and you are upset? You don’t like it? Well... go sit on that rear you burned... and live with it.
Actually I do appreciate Trump for lazering on on immigration..... That said I can’t get over his past positions. At this point I’m for Kasich. Solid conservative level headed guy. I know that makes me an outlier on this forum...but I don’t care. Jim Rob to his credit is allowing us to fight this out.
If these NR losers had spent this much energy against Obama, we might take them seriously, but the truth is, they were never on our side. I have no doubt they vote dem and always have.
Trump's current political following is very fervent,
verifiable by observation. +1 = 0
...and it is based upon... nothing.
False claim on its face. -2 = -2
He has no experience,
Insufficiently specific assertion resulting in a commonsense falsehood. -1.5 = -3.5
... he has contradicted his on words of a few years ago many times in the past few months,
Superficially true in part; false in part; unsupported by links and nonspecific: +.5 = -3
... and he is motivated more by a desire to show off his business acumen than he is by a desire to reverse the Democrat damage of the past decade...
Unprovable assertion. -1 = -4
... and yet his following on even the most conservative webpages is very strong,
True. +1 = -3
... despite all of this.
Doubles down on mostly false or unprovable claims (above) as evidence. -3 = -6
The previous poster's point, that the baseless fervor matches that of Obama, is a valid one.
False. The fervor may appear to have reached a similar volume; but the content and causative factors for the fervor differs substantially in origins, goals, demographic participation, funding, political ties, and a number of other factors.
+1 for noticing the degree of fervor = -5
-2 for calling the fervor "baseless," a logical impossibility = -7
-6 for the cited differences in content of the fervor = a total score of minus 13
So again, why are you offended by the truth?
What truth are you referring to?
He did not vote for obama!
I wish you could say that to FoxNews and send it to Trump!! Bravo!!
So it's still up because they have put you in the cyberstocks for all the community to point and jeer, is that it? Count your blessings it wasn't the cyberducking stool.
It’s quite conceivable that Trump voted for Obama. Just after the election he was touting Obama:
“After the election in November of 2008, I was interviewed by Dominic Carter of New York ... he [Obama] understands how the economy works on a comprehensive level. He has also surrounded himself with very competent people, and thatâs the mark of a strong leader. I have confidence he will do his best, and we have someone who is serious about resolving the problems we have and will be facing in the future.”
Fixed that for ya.
I count myself a conservative and am for Cruz as I agree with him on most (not all) of the issues.
Yet I despise the corrupt crony establishment RINO's and the war-mongering neo-conservatives so much so that should Trump get the nomination, I will march* to the polls and vote for him as I see that as a quiet and modest way of saying "FU RNC!"
* march is hyperbole since I am in a precinct that is exclusively mail in ballots now but you catch my drift.
So he says today. I don't get why anyone believes what Trump says - today. Is there anything that he hasn't done a 180 on?
Why do you believe the guy now?
Trump praised Obama, thought he picked a good team; Hillary was great, good choice to negotiate with Iran... He supported Reid, Pelosi, Charlie Rangel for goodness sake. Gave big time to Rahm Emanuel.
It doesn’t take hate to believe Trump voted for Obama; takes less effort than believing he didn’t.
I thought you were referring to Buckley’s son Christopher, a novelist, who wrote for NR in 2008, including an article titled “Sorry Dad, I’m Voting for Obama.” That ass.
Fraudulent tweet not real.
National Review / GOPe bump for later....
LOL!!
Cuz I know for sure what Cruz and the GOPe WON’T do. They’ve had years. And during that time Cruz has built a massive army of . . . One (Mike Lee). So I know he’s not going to be able to lead enough people to get anything done. At least Trump builds things and has met a payroll.
Megyn Kelly was having an orgasm, blood coming out of her whatever, while having three of the contributors to this. Do the Nimrodi Non-Illumonoti don’t realize that they of preaching to a choir sells few magazines, and changes fewer minds. Long Time non voters don’t read, “National Review”
That is a fake tweet that has been debunked many times over. Trump voted for McCain.
Sounds sufficiently contrite to me.
