Lott, who has endorsed Ohio Governor John Kasich, hemmed and hawed and coughed. “Uh, Rubio?” he said. Then he answered the question: “You know, to be honest with you, I’d probably pick Trump over Cruz.”

The reason, he said, was Cruz’s violation of Senate niceties. “I’ve watched him in the Senate,” said Lott, whom I was interviewing alongside fellow former Majority Leader Tom Daschle at the 92nd Street Y in New York. Lott and Daschle have co-written a new book, Crisis Point, about the problem of Washington gridlock.

“I’ve watched him stand on the floor of the Senate and call the majority leader a liar,” Lott added. “I don’t know whether he was or he wasn’t—you don’t do that where I’m from. If I’d have been in the Senate, I would have tried to have him removed from the floor of the Senate for inappropriate conduct. You just don’t do that. Are we not still gentlemen, and respectful of each other?”

And he thinks Trump would be nicer than Cruz?

This kind of nice?

“@ SenJohnMcCain should be defeated in the primaries. Graduated last in his class at Annapolis--dummy,” Trump tweeted Thursday, referring to McCain by his Twitter handle.

OR

Trump responded during his speech by calling Graham an "idiot" and a "lightweight." He then held up a piece of paper and read out the senator's cell phone number to the capacity crowd of 540 people and the TV audience.

Why are politicians so thin skinned that when they lie, they get so offended when somebody calls them on it.

So Cruz stands up for his principles and that is now a problem. But Trump calls people names, and is the nicer one. Our political system may never recover.

...."The GOPe is frightened by Ted Cruz for a reason, folks. It's because he is the only person who genuinely threatens their hold on power in the race."......

Indeed...what we see now with the GOPe beginning to line up behind Trump, Demorats and former or phony conservatives... all speaks loudly and evidences we are supporting the right man. May God himself be within this race and when it's finished "show himself" as the Victor for the Untied States of America!......he may very well choose not to if the people don't get this right, this time, and vote for the good man he has given us to vote for.....

This a false meme but nice try

Lindsay Graham today:

Asked if he’d prefer Trump over Cruz, Graham said: “It’s a lot like being shot or poisoned: I think you get the same result.”

Bottom line is nobody inside the beltway likes Cruz. Tough to advance your agenda if that is the case. Cruz has been campaigning for POTUS since he got there and nobody likes a climber.

Tell when Cruz has ever made a "Deal" with McConnell?

They know Donnie is Deal-Maker.

Nope. Trump will build coalitions. Cruz is clearly incapable of that.

The GOPe is frightened by Ted Cruz for a reason, folks. It's because he is the only person who genuinely threatens their hold on power in the race.

How so? Can he really win? Could he really get anything done if he did win?

Yes. I see you prefer losing 99-1. Senator Principled Conservative (TM) made his beltway bed and now he must lay it. Nobody likes him and he has no hope of advancing a conservative agenda there. Getting what we want requires a negotiation aka “deal”. Nothing controversial about it.

I am frightened by your statement.

It’s ... I mean, do you really mean that?

Unless I support Trump .. nothing matters at all.

A lot matters to me and that is exactly why I can never support Trump.

Oh nonsense, this is SO tiresome. This forum is a conservative forum, whose membership consists primarily of Republicans with a generous dash of Libertarians, and some independents and Constitution party members.

We should be discussing the relative merits versus weaknesses of our candidates, and never ever ever insulting one another by suggesting people are stupid, not conservative (whatever that means anymore, I prefer classic liberal myself,) Trump cult followers, etc.

Of course, we are going to have disagreements and see things differently, and we should respect those differences of opinion. Furthermore, we should bend over backward to understand the reasons why various individuals make the decision to support/vote for one candidate versus another.

Of course many things matter in the decision to support or not support Cruz versus Trump versus ???, and very seldom, at least on this forum, is the decision made to support Trump just because he is Trump. That is silly. There are lots of reasons why we who support Trump, and those reasons are not because he is perfect, he most certainly is not, or because he is the most ideologically pure, he is not.

But he is a good candidate, he has some pretty good positions, and he can and will run a campaign that will defeat Hillary.

If the cowardly corrupt self-serving GOPe turns tail, and begins to support Trump, that is to be expected. They are beginning to realize he not only has the support of the base but lots of disaffected Americans who are not Republicans as well. They are realizing that if they continue their attempts to destroy Trump, these will only result in their own destruction. So, they are beginning to jump on the bandwagon, saying and doing what they can to appease Mr. Trump, who may very well destroy their political careers anyway. It is doubtful indeed that Senator Cruz ever could do so, no matter what the circumstances!

But I am afraid you are quite young with arrogance of youth, and will not be reasoned with. And you will continue in your certainty that you are right, everyone else is blindly stupidly wrong — until that day comes your own conceited know-it-all young tell you that you do not know a thing, and that point you will realize that your elders may know a thing or two after all.

So be at peace with the nomination of Mr. Trump should that happen, had he not entered the race, for an absolute certainty, we would have Jeb “Pontius Pilate” Bush shoved down our throats. Ted Cruz would have occupied the same position as Newt Gingrich last time around, all money his money gone, the last man standing against the well-funded Romney; exactly the scenario that had been planned for this time as well.

I am about to give up.

People here have lost all their sense and principles to back a false prophet.

I was watching The Caine Mutiny at 3 AM today. Wonderful movie. Does anyone remember the girl in it ... May Wynn. She changed her real name for the role.

Later she had an affair with Sammy Davis, Jr. I remember one time she gained a little weight and he couldn’t stand it. He told her ... would you rather eat that sandwich or be able to fit into your (insert brand name) pants?

She should have dropped him right then, but I think he dropped her later.
