Regardless of one's feelings on the Cruz situation, the comparison with military/diplomatic families is nonsensical.

I wasn't doing a comparison. I was responding to a post from another FReeper.

The poll is in NC and NC alone.

PS: I thought you put me on your persona non grata list. I was rather enjoying that.

Here is the full set ...

Q24 Do you think Ted Cruz was born in the United States?

27% Yes
49% No
25% Not sure

Q25 Do you think someone born in another country should be allowed to serve as President of the United States, or not?

28% Yes
53% No
19% Not sure

Q26 Ted Cruz was born in Canada. Does this make you more or less likely to support him for the Republican nomination for President, or does it not make a difference?

7% More likely [dirty subversives!! ;)]
31% Less likely
57% Doesn't make a difference
6% Not sure

Some people who think he should not be allowed to serve will vote for him anyway. That makes sense, it really does. If Obama can get away with it, then so can my guy.

Interesting that only 49% think he was not born in the US. 27% think he was, and the ones who are not sure will assume he was, how else could he run (or it can't be possible the RNC would front an ineligible candidate)

So why doesn't Cruz address this issue rather than laughing it off? He needs to clear it up.

The inept handling of this has been his undoing. His defense is basically, "I'm NBC because I said so, and so did these other really smart people."

The problem is that opponents have trotted out their own really smart people who say, "Not so fast."

I know the Cruz base is really pissed at Trump for this, but you have to know it was coming. Better now than against Hillary (or whoever wins the D nomination).

PS. Cruz could have used some political cover from other respected politicians, all of whom have kept out of things. Their silence speaks volumes. Being an independent cuss is one thing, but it appears that he does not have any political allies who are willing to vouch for him.

But the RNC certified Cruz as eligible.

That's news to me. Do you have a link for that?

” 53% would also get other provisions of the Constitution wrong”

It’s the 53% that have it right. The 28% say they’re “alright” despite it being unconstitutional.

No offense I hope, was just providing a clinical statement without argument

And no worries about your status in my mind. Your position is safe and secure.

No, I got that MamaTexan.

I was agreeing with you and bolstering your argument.

Others (not you) were comparing the children born to American citizens overseas to the Cruz situation.

The child born to an American servicefamily serving near the DMZ is not a Korean citizen. Cruz WAS a Canadian citizen. Beyond dispute.

Sure, can’t let babies born to Americans serving their country or working their businesses overseas be President but anchor babies dropped a week after their mothers carry them across the border can. An American woman on vacation in Japan better not have her baby if that kid would ever want to be President.

I do think you need to be born to two citizens. Where you were born doesn’t mean anything in my mind...military is the best example, expats on business etc.

No link. I called the state GOP to ask what could be done about an ineligible name on the ballot, and I mentioned Cruz. Was told that the state GOP has no control, that the RNC Certifies eligibility, and the state GOP would put a dog on the ballot if the RNC certified it eligible.

I submitted a written inquiry, asking what should be done, and what would be done.

It would be good if the state GOP and RNC were to be inundated with that question. There is an issue, they certified, maybe falsely (I say certainly falsely), and that it reflects badly on their competency and maybe on their integrity, scruples and honesty. Plus, it is a crime to make a false material statement in an election certification of eligibility.

The touchstone is "where." It's what makes nations, nations. This is ancient, and I do mean ancient law. If the "natural " rule is "by blood," then after generations, the only meaning to citizenship becomes a representation of where your ancestors lived.

Your family will always be your family. Nations are not your family.

Congress is generous with granting citizenship to children of citizens abroad. The only thing you "give up" is the presidency. When the US was founded, its purpose was not to police the world, and its soldiers would have been men.

Depending on where, most US military bases abroad are considered sovereign soil of the United States. All Embassies are considered sovereign soil of their respective country, when the embassy is established. If the child is born in the embassy or on the US base, it is as if they were born in the states.

Doesn’t matter to Trumpsters...! They love the republican establishment guy.

Trump gave 60 million dollars to the Mitch McConnel campaign, he gave tens of thousands of dollars to the Harry Reid campaign, and tens of thousands more to get Nancy Pelosi, and Hillary Clinton elected. He is still their guy. Go figure....!

Oh - sorry! I took your response as a being personal one, not a general statement. :-)
