SALEM-Governor Kate Brown on Wednesday had harsh words for the federal government's handling of a 19-day occupation of the Malheur National Wildlife Refuge--calling the response too slow and saying it's left neighbors in Harney County lacking as tensions worsen.
Brown, speaking at a news conference where she also laid out her 2016 policy agenda, also said Oregon officials should "scrub" the state's budget next month to help offset the costs of the standoff. She put those ongoing expenses at $100,000 a week, with even more money spent during the first week of the standoff.
"This situation is absolutely intolerable and it must be resolved immediately," Brown said, saying she'll continue to press her case with the White House and FBI and also seek federal reimbursements. "The very fabric of this community is being ripped apart."
She confirmed that federal authorities had asked her office and other local officials to say as little as possible about the occupation to keep from adding any fuel to the occupiers' rhetorical fire. But that didn't stop her from speaking out all the same.
"This spectacle of lawlessness must end," Brown said.
How is it costing $100k a week?
She is a complete Marxist who would never support those ranchers.
Pray America wakes
Indeed. Hillary Clinton must be indicted and face trial.
Donuts for the sheriff’s deputies and the state police don’t cost that much, but overtime must be involved and they are using hotels to put up law enforcement.
The mental anguish to the Left from this small group pointing to the failings and over-reach of govt??
It sure isn’t from govt ‘working’. There’s no ‘stand-off’ that would require a round-the-clock SWAT team.
Oh, and the butt-hurt.
She can get the cash from the counter protesting eco nazis:
I guess she never considered what the cost of fed policy is to ranchers. Would she like to reimburse THEM to protect some turf from productive human use?
Fine, all she needs to do is throw out the Federal Government’s claim to the land. Declare the land to be state land, owned and governed by the state of Oregon. If she then asks the folks to leave, she might well have a lawful point.
BTW: If they were leftists hugging the trees, she would be demanding they get sandwiches and extra warm clothes.

I was going to ask the same question.
The folks there have been repairing the buildings, keeping the area clean and have not threatened anyone. ...They just want the Feds to stop taking away the rights of the residents.
Oregon sucks!
Same question here
The government seems to LOVE using shock and awe levels of deadly force...up until someone comes along who is ready for it...then, not so much.
Nobody is forcing the phalanx of state and Federal officers to stay there at that cost. Just leave and eventually the situation will go away. But I think the officers are loving the overtime.
Stockholm Syndrome, identifying with the wants, needs and desires of your oppressors who are the real victims. (my definition)

Oh, Ruby Ridge, the Branch Davidians, etc., showed that the government has no problem with violence against Americans per se. It’s the bad press from traitorous murder they hate. And they haven’t found a way to mass murder MSM “journalists” who report such misdeeds; otherwise it’d be a field day.
are there any quotes from this stooge about the Occupy Wall Street clowns who tied up Portland a few years ago?
I have an idea for the governor. Withdraw your troopers. This is a dispute between citizens and the federal government. Let the feds handle it. Budget problems solved.
One of the ranchers spoke on the john and ken radio show. He said they had closed down the local school for a week telling everyone it was for the safety of the kids.
He said at night the school was lit up with lights. It was made into a staging area for the feds. That might be why it costs that much, to pay for the feds payroll?
Overtime, hotels, travel costs and per diem, vehicle and equipment costs (fuel , increased maintenance and depreciation) ...
$100k per week actually seems on the low side to me.
Disgusting government slugs
Why would the state pay for the Feds?
What are the state's costs in this?
