As we've been made painfully aware this campaign, Hillary Clinton is no Bill Clinton.
But what should worry Hillary is that Ted Cruz just might be.
In last week's debate, Marco Rubio lit into Cruz with a lengthy harangue of supposed flip-flops on immigration, trade, ethanol and other issues. Rubio charged Cruz was no "consistent conservative."
In short, Rubio was calling Cruz out as being politically "slick."
If so, he shares certain attributes with successful two-term presidents -- the ability to engage seemingly contradictory elements of the party base and ideological, ahem, "fluidity" that drives other members of the party nuts.
Ronald Reagan made his career in Hollywood, yet managed to "sell" himself so successfully to the working class and blue-collar voter that these people became known as "Reagan Democrats."
Clinton was the Harvard-educated Rhodes Scholar who nonetheless managed to keep himself beloved by the "Bubba" white Southern voters that Democrats began to lose in the 1970s and have hemorrhaged in the two decades since Clinton's last election.
Barack Obama married the black Democrat base to the more elite, academic and lifestyle liberals (now swarming to Bernie Sanders).
In Cruz, Republicans have a man with a double-Ivy League education -- Princeton undergrad, Harvard Law -- who successfully ran a Senate campaign as a grassroots, anti-elitist, populist Tea Party candidate while married to a Goldman Sachs banker. He plays the part of tough-talking Texan comfortable in his cowboy boots perfectly -- just as well as Yale lawyer Bill Clinton wore his Arkansas on his sleeve....

I don’t think I would ever want to be compared to Bill Clinton.
He means he’s a great campaigner, as was Clinton, as opposed to his wife, Hillary.
I get what he meant, but that’s one hell of an image it brings to mind.
He also compares him to Reagan and Obama.
Donald Trump is the next “P. T.” Barnum...
I understood the intended comparison. However, as Gaffer stated it brings up a horrible image that I wouldn’t want to be compared to no matter the intention.
Shall we start calling him Slick Ted?
The Cuban with heels is the next slick Willy
I gave up on Cruz when I realized that he did not understand the US Constitution. He needs to reread it again starting with Article 1......
I’m real tired with his almost daily e-mail begging for $$$$$$$$$s...... while Trump is turning donors down.....
Definition: Socialism is a political term applied to an economic system in which property is held in common and not individually, and relationships are governed by a political hierarchy.
Common ownership doesn't mean decisions are made collectively, however.
Instead, individuals in positions of authority make decisions in the name of the collective group.
Regardless of the picture painted of socialism by its proponents, it ultimately removes group decision making in favor of the choices of one all-important individual.
Socialism originally involved the replacement of private property with a market exchange, but history has proven this ineffective.
Socialism cannot prevent people from competing for what is scarce.
Socialism as we know it today, most commonly refers to "market socialism,"
which involves individual market exchanges organized by collective planning.
People often confuse "socialism" with the concept of "communism."
While the two ideologies share much in common -- in in fact communism encompasses socialism -- the primary difference between the two is that "socialism" applies to economic systems,
whereas "communism" applies to both economic and political systems.
Another difference between socialism and communism is that communists directly oppose the concept of capitalism, an economic system in which production is controlled by private interests.
Socialists, on the other hand, believe socialism can exist within a capitalist society.
Pronunciation: soeshoolizim
Also Known As: Bolshevism, Fabianism, Leninism, Maoism, Marxism, collective ownership, collectivism, communism, state ownerhsip
Alternate Spellings: none
Common Misspellings: none
Examples: "Democracy and socialism have nothing in common but one word, equality.
But notice the difference: while democracy seeks equality in liberty, socialism seeks equality in restraint and servitude."
-- French historian and political theorist Alexis de Tocqueville
"As with the Christian religion, the worst advertisement for Socialism is its adherents."
-- author George Orwell
That's the author's point.
Donald Trump is the new John MeCain, hot-head, mean & nasty.
Clinton went to Yale, not Harvard.
Perry/s first prez run was aggressively vicious..... his supporters were rabid pitbulls. The hardcore Perry supporters remained brutally obnoxious. They were like cockroaches .... looking for someone to annoy. (hat tip fantasywriter)
Too bad Perry chose to annoy voters.
At the prez debate, Perry donned cement overshoes when he looked down on voters, sneering at us b/c we opposed in-state tuition for illegals....saying we had no heart.
================================================
SUMMING UP Voters will forgive candidates a lot....but they simply will not forgive a candidate who does not understand the repercussions of his words.
Perry ignored conventional political wisdom: its not how much voters like a candidate that counts......its all about how much the candidate seems to like the voters.
===============================================
Cruz supporters are looking more like that by the day. It/s as if they/ve completely given up......they just want to find somebody to bash. This is not the profile of a winning campaign.
Haven’t we had enough lawyers in the White House?
+1!
Mrs. Mad assures me there is no “arousal gap” with Cruz. she polled the ladies at the beauty shop.
or “Sled”?
I’m hoping that Palin can unite us all again. Speculation strong she’s endorsing Trump, and Cruz is already in a panic about it.
