Scarborough on Cruz: 'One Thing Being Outsider, Another Being Pariah'
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

"If you want a friend in Washington, get a dog." That's how Harry Truman downplayed the importance of friendships in politics. But at a certain point, do poor personal relations impede a president's ability to get things done?

On today's Morning Joe, after rolling a clip in which Donald Trump called Ted Cruz a disliked and "very nasty guy" who can't make deals, a discussion ensued as to whether Cruz's personality would be an impediment to his effectiveness as president. Joe Scarborough was particularly harsh in his assessement, saying "it's one thing being an outsider; it's another thing being a pariah."

To be fair to Ted, no one likes Obama. Democrats even admit it. Still, BO gets things done.

If Scarborough doesn’t like him, thats another point in his favor.

Cruz has all the right enemies.

GOPe doesn’t like Trump, and they really don’t like Cruz.

I’d vote for Cruz in the general election, especially against Hillary and Sanders, but I have no illusions about him getting elected (like I did about past GOP candidates), and I also have no illusions about him being able to get much of anything done in terms of an enduring legislative agenda.

That’s rich... coming from someone who conveniently “forgot” to disclose a large financial transaction from one of the most corrupt banks in the country.

We now know your standard for honesty.

This is the Pat Roberts, who’s been representing Kansas forever, yet hasn’t had a residence there for years? The GOPe icon who survived a conservative primary opponent last cycle? When one of Mitch’s senior boys talks ‘Cruz,’ consider the source!

They may not like the man, but they like his socialist/big government policies.

I’m sure there were a few that did the bidding of guys like Hitler and Stalin and Mao but didn’t exactly want to invite those folks over for schnitzel or pirog or kung pao

I was turned off when I saw Cruz whining about how McConnell lied to him. The Turtle probably did lie to him but by getting up in the Senate and whining about it, you are exposing the fact that you got duped, which to me is not a good look. If that happened to me, I’d be very quiet about it, but make a mental note never to believe the guy again.

Didn’t Trump make fun of a handicapped reporter? I thought that was very petty, mean and hateful. I don’t think Cruz or anyone would stoop that low.

Yes, you can’t take a stand against the establishment without being a pariah. You can’t even suggest the mildest reforms without being called all sorts of names. So someone who strongly supports the Constitution is seen as a bigger threat than all the terrorists in the world combined.

Check the ‘born on dates’ of the Cruz trolls.

Most of them come here the last time Obastard ran and haven’t been seen since until this election season.

Yeah that's him...he's Chairman of the Senate Agriculture Committee also.

Makes perfect sense that he'd try to flip a vote on a subsidy important to his constituency.

This is spot on. Many people are starting to notice Cruz has no accomplishments outside the court room. He’s done nothing in DC. Built no coalitions to advance the Conservative agenda. He’s pulled an Obama. Campaigned for POTUS the entire time he has been in beltway and it’s alienated him from EVERYBODY there. Nobody likes him. Nobody likes being a potted plant in Cruz’s beltway theater performances or being stepped on by a climber like Cruz. Ted Cruz’s has only his own selfishness to blame for this.
