Cruz: I can win some blue states in the general election
Politico ^ | 01/14/16 08:46 AM EST | Nolan D. McCaskill

Ted Cruz believes he can win some blue states in a general election, specifically Ohio, Pennsylvania, Michigan, Wisconsin and New Hampshire - all states the Republican nominee lost to Barack Obama in the 2008 and 2012 elections.

Cruz said Mitt Romney and John McCain, the past two Republican nominees for president, lost those states because millions of conservatives didn’t vote.

Story Continued Below

"We haven't been bringing out the Reagan Democrats. I believe our campaign will do that,” Cruz said in an interview with U.S. News & World Report published Thursday. "And I'll point out, what we do know doesn't work is following the Bob Dole-John McCain-Mitt Romney plan - that, we know, produces double-digit losses. So, the Washington conventional wisdom is that we need to keep moving further and further left and sounding more and more like the Democrats. And every time we do that we lose by bigger and bigger margins."

In New Hampshire, the first-in-the-nation primary state, Cruz polls fourth in a RealClearPolitics average of state polls at 10.8 percent. Donald Trump dominates the field at 30 percent, but Florida Sen. Marco Rubio and Ohio Gov. John Kasich are in striking distance at 13 and 11 percent, respectively. Cruz maintains that his campaign is "underestimated" there but that his message is resonating with voters.

"Again looking at the informed voters, when we're there in front of a rally, early on, our rallies had two and three times the number of people that the Jeb Bush and Scott Walker rallies had, back when they were the expected dominant players," he said."“So I believe the message resonates well there."

"We have not put the resources into TV yet; we just went up on air, so we will be," Cruz continued. "Many of the people statewide haven't heard our message and have heard everybody else's. So I think we have a lot of upside. It's fairly remarkable, given that the rest of the field has spent $50 million, we've spent zero, that we are, in a variety of polls, essentially in a three--way tie for second."

The country has moved much further left since 1984.

BFD. Are we all supposed to jump for joy now? That's a loser attitude.

Low energy and no self-confidence.

I think Trump said he can win them all.

California was a republican-leaning/swing state at the time. He won it in 1980 AND 1984.

Cruz should have said “LIBERAL VALUES”

That’s what he meant. We all know he meant it, but Trump just spiked him on the debate stage and Cruz clapping afterward just looked... weak.

I'm so impressed with full stadiums I though I would post a couple more.

Yeah, full stadiums is how we should pick leaders!

You just updated the 1952 argument of Eisenhower over Taft.

Obama had to be born in the US in order to be a natural born citizen because his citizen parent did not meet the residency requirements. If he was born in Kenya or otherwise outside of the US or its jurisdiction as many suspect, he is not a natural born citizen.

However, Cruz did not have to be born in the US to be a natural born citizen because his mother did meet the residency requirements as per the 1952 (McCarran-Walter) naturalization act. Cruz was born a citizen of the US and is, as such, a natural born citizen.

Not very likely. Trump can get some Reagan Democrat types, not Cruz.

I don’t think Cruz could win blue states either. But, then again Hillary or Sanders could lose them also. I didn’t think Reagan would carry blue states in 1980 but I was wrong.

What does Cruz bring as veep? Texas will go for the Republican candidate without him. Unless, he plans on bringing Ottawa into the red category.

“Here is the deal. No Republican, and certainly no evangelical, can ever win the Presidency from now on. Demographics has determined this to be true. There are now millions of more illegals (Latinos and muslims) voting in this election, and they will guarantee victory to the Democrats. Ted Cruze cannot will the election for President. Let me say this again unless you missed it: Ted Cruz cannot be elected President. He has zero appeal to anyone but Republicans. On the other hand, Donald Trump (who is neither Republican nor Democrat) had tremendous cross party appeal. If you Republicans are smart (we’ll see about that), you will rally around Trump and get out the vote come this November. Otherwise, it will be Democrat Presidents forever.”
____________________________________________________________

This is EXACTLY what I’ve been thinking! The demographics in the U.S. Has changed too much in the past 30 years! BTW- I’m a “Conservative” in NYC and yes, there’s still some of us here. The DeBalsio thing was mainly due to most voters getting caught asleep (lowest turnout in a generation with only a 30% turnout). Almost EVERYONE I know has told me that they will VOTE against the communist (DeBalsio) and they can’t wait to do so!! And these are mostly liberally people. I am NOW convinced that TRUMP has a chance when my black friends (from Jamiaca, St Lucia, etc) and even some “Hispanics” I do business with have actually admitted that they were leaning towards TRUMP despite what they’ve heard about it!

Be the person elected Cruz or Trump...actually anyone...we are in a terrible position financially and economically. Militarily we are now much weaker.

I don’t know what things will be like next January, but we’re in for some deep, icy waters.

“You must be born ON USA SOIL!!”

The first naturalization act passed by Congress was a mere 18 months from their ratification of the Constitution. In it Congress specifically named children born to citizens outside of the US as “natural born citizens”. There is nothing in the Constitution or any applicable naturalization law that absolutely requires being born on US soil in order to be a natural born citizen.

But for two words you may be right — but there are two important words that many forget -— “BUT GOD.”
