After months of playing nice, Cruz hits Trump. Then hits him again. And again.

After months of responding to Donald Trump's attacks by deflecting them, joking about them or just plain ignoring them, Ted Cruz struck back late Tuesday with a stream of pointed criticism directed at the GOP front-runner.

At events in New Hampshire and in radio interviews, Cruz took direct aim at Trump on several fronts: tying the billionaire to Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, questioning his ability to win a general election, casting doubt on his ability to serve as commander in chief and disputing his "New York values."

The swiftness and ferocity of the attacks is striking for Cruz, who said as recently as Monday that he didn't want to go to war with Trump. The two men are battling for the top spot in polls in Iowa, which host the first-in-the-nation caucuses Feb. 1. Cruz said Tuesday that Trump was clearly feeling the pressure.

Cruz took direct aim at Trump's competence. "Does a potential commander in chief know what the nuclear triad is, much less is he or she prepared and able to strengthen it and keep this country safe?" Cruz asked on "The Hugh Hewitt Show." In a Republican debate last month, Trump was asked about the nuclear triad and had trouble with the explanation.

And he jabbed Trump on the billionaire's cosmopolitan lifestyle. “I think he may shift in his new rallies to playing New York, New York, because Donald comes from New York and he embodies New York values,” Cruz told Carr.

I like Trump just fine, because my priority is defeating the Uniparty.

But I like Cruz more, because he is conservative like me.

Trump and Cruz had a truce on for a very long time. In my opinion, that truce existed because they both realized they first needed to clear the field of everyone else.

That has largely been accomplished.

Now, Trump and Cruz have reached the fork in the road where they originally agreed they would have to part ways.

But what a great fork! We must choose between two guys, either of whom will KILL the Uniparty. I think Cruz will more surely do that, but I understand Donald will do it to a certain extent too, so I could support him if necessary.

Given Donald’s earlier attacks on Cruz, Donald thought the truce should be over. Today, Cruz agrees.

Fair enough.

May the best man win!

DEATH TO THE UNIPARTY!!!!

GO CRUZ!!!

I think you are right. His stock is certainly falling with me. I trust my gut though, after decades of experience. I’ve always had misgiving about him. Something off. Something false and evasive.

Some of my friends are liking it though; they are energized by it. They are also young and naive, and have long track records of bad character assessments that I spotted as wrong long before they did.

IMO, Cruz would be another Bush II. Speaks well, doesn’t move the ball forward one bit, sells out globalist agendas and calls it conservative.

It was worse than that. Previous to trump being called, Dr. Carson had given answer incorporating the three parts of the triad, then Hugh Hewitt asked the question largely referring to Dr. ‘s answer, and trump was still absolutely clueless.

It was comparable to Ford saying Poland was free.

If that happens, likely the brokered results will be a Rubio or Bush or Kasich or even a nostalgic rerun for Romney.

At most, Cruz might get a cabinet seat. He would be playing a similar role that Huckabee did for McCain in 2008.

So how is Trump a draft dodger? Because he had a student deferment for 4 years, and had a medical deferment for bone spurs in his feet.

Real smooth line there, Ted. Glad to know that there are swaths of the nation you really are willing to say suck while trying to run to be president of it.

You said the same thing when Trump called Iowans stupid?

All this is much ado about nothing. Trump is going to win and we all know it. Any other scenario is simply wishful thinking, but carry on if it makes you all feel better after.

As opposed to sitting U. S. Senator campaigning with Amnesty Ryan for Obama’s TPA. I’ll take the bloviating and you can have the Obama enabler. To each his own, FRiend.

Free trade, as part of laissez faire economics, is a traditional Republican plank. Adam Smith, David Ricardo and Milton Friedman would approve.

Is there anyone on the planet that doesn't know who Trump is? Trump opens his rallies with a missive about the polls and his financial success.

And while we're at it... how many folks listen to that radio show anyhow. Rush has plenty of good things to say about Trump.

And finally, if the media, the establishment Pubs/Dems can't take Trump out, how is Cruz going to? Hey Cruz. How about comparing your tax plan to Trumps.

“Vote for whomever you like, but do because of where they stand on the issues only.”

And where Trump has stood on the issues through this entire campaign is top notch. Cruz’s stance has changed as he sees what is working for Trump.

Unless Trump is a complete idiot he knew from the get go his scorched earth style of campaigning wouldn’t win him any support from the other candidates supporters.

Trump is keeping Hillary and her legal problems out of the news.

The swiftness and ferocity of the attacks is striking for Cruz,

He hit him with a boa or something? Overhyped Compost.

Feb. 1. Cruz said Tuesday that Trump was clearly feeling the pressure.

Yeah the pressure to take 50 states.

"Does a potential commander in chief know what the nuclear triad is, much less is he or she prepared and able to strengthen it and keep this country safe?"

Nuclear Triad is not mention much since the Reagan days unless it's in some esoteric publication that wonks read.
