After months of playing nice, Cruz hits Trump. Then hits him again. And again.

After months of responding to Donald Trump's attacks by deflecting them, joking about them or just plain ignoring them, Ted Cruz struck back late Tuesday with a stream of pointed criticism directed at the GOP front-runner.

At events in New Hampshire and in radio interviews, Cruz took direct aim at Trump on several fronts: tying the billionaire to Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, questioning his ability to win a general election, casting doubt on his ability to serve as commander in chief and disputing his "New York values."

The swiftness and ferocity of the attacks is striking for Cruz, who said as recently as Monday that he didn't want to go to war with Trump. The two men are battling for the top spot in polls in Iowa, which host the first-in-the-nation caucuses Feb. 1. Cruz said Tuesday that Trump was clearly feeling the pressure.

Cruz took direct aim at Trump's competence. "Does a potential commander in chief know what the nuclear triad is, much less is he or she prepared and able to strengthen it and keep this country safe?" Cruz asked on "The Hugh Hewitt Show." In a Republican debate last month, Trump was asked about the nuclear triad and had trouble with the explanation.

And he jabbed Trump on the billionaire's cosmopolitan lifestyle. “I think he may shift in his new rallies to playing New York, New York, because Donald comes from New York and he embodies New York values,” Cruz told Carr.

The more I learn about this Cruz character, the less I think of him.

I agree It makes it worse because he wraps himself in the “Armor of God” and his supporters try to claim he is a saint.

It would help your argument if you actually had a clue.

Trump was highly thought of in his school by both instructors and fellow students.

You can search Google for several personal accounts concerning this.

Yes I know. He seems smarmy.

Like I said I’d vote for him if he were the nominee.

Yeah, he has always rubbed me the wrong way like Santorum, and seems to be morphing into that role as well as the personality.

I have no doubt that Ted decided he had to attack Trump if was ever to gain any traction, and that's what he's been doing in the past few weeks. He ended the truce, regardless of how his supporters try to spin it.

I think Cruz alienated many Trump supporters with his sneaky, round about way of starting the war of words with Trump, and he's becoming an asset to the GOPe.

He should have just kept his campaign positive and accepted whatever resulted. He'd have been in a good position to team with Trump if he couldn't build enough support to win, but now I think he's blowing it.

Well said.

No, not particularly Heidi. She does seem a bit gritty however. She’s gotta be super smart like Ted...I find them both hard to relate to,

You know how serious a slander that is. You should be prepared to have to deal with any repercussions. Just saying -

Oh my! You just made be gasp out loud. My question to you is Trump doesn’t know basic things that many regular folks do know. Now, he can learn them, but he is clueless on a whole host of issues. Just watch the debates. I’m embarrassed for him sometimes. However, having written that, there are only two candidates I will vote for...Cruz and Trump, because there is no one else.

Clearly the man has no chops for policy, which explains why he has been all over the lot on policy his entire adult life, and will likely to continue to “evolve” if he should ever be placed in the presidency.

Trump is the laziest candidate I have ever seen. Takes no time to study up on important issues. Just bloviates about his poll numbers, insults his opponents, and throws out a few red-meat soundbites. Pathetic.

Like what? Quite a generalization with no specifics to support it.

All candidates lack knowledge in some areas.

As opposed to sitting U. S. Senator campaigning with Amnesty Ryan for Obama’s TPA. I’ll take the bloviating and you can have the Obama enabler. To each his own, FRiend.

I’d say he’s not beholden to the Bush “dynasty” by any means:

The biggest case of his tenure was Medellin v. Texas in 2008, he said, emphasizing he opposed President George W. Bush.

“I went before the Supreme Court and said no president has the constitutional authority to give away U.S. sovereignty,” Cruz said.

In the case, the Bush administration supported a U.N. International Court of Justice ruling in 2008 that 51 Mexican illegal immigrants on death row in Texas had been deprived of rights because they were not allowed to seek assistance or advice from the Mexican consulate after they were arrested.

Agreed. Like it or not, Trump’s appeal crosses over. He is also the best retail politician I have ever seen in my life and he keeps getting better.
