Consider the combined support for Mr. Trump, Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, and the former neurosurgeon Ben Carson -- all cast by conventional strategists for the "totally unacceptable" role. The three outsiders command two-thirds of Republican support nationally. "Establishment" favorites like Marco Rubio, Jeb Bush, Chris Christie and John R. Kasich remain political weaklings by comparison.
Currently, Mr. Cruz holds a small lead in Iowa, and Mr. Trump has a big one in New Hampshire and most everywhere else. One hope for their rivals: a long, destructive siege between the two that opens a path to victory for a third candidate, perhaps Mr. Rubio.
That hope fuels an intense competition to become the top "establishment" candidate in New Hampshire, even if that represents third place. No third-place New Hampshire finisher has won the Republican nomination.
But Mr. Reed has an increasing appreciation for Mr. Trump's political ability. For all of his rhetorical fireworks, he has driven home his simple vow to "make America great again."
Mr. Trump "is the most on-message candidate of this cycle, by a factor of 10," Mr. Reed said.
*snip*
His skills at political jujitsu "are remarkable," Mr. Reed concluded. For the first time, he now believes Mr. Trump can win the Republican nomination.

Trump winning is nearly impossible. The GOPe, the Media, and the Democrat Party are just getting started. Just note the increased anti-Trump posts on this forum as Jeb rises in the polls.
You ain’t seen nothing yet.
Old time vets. Youngins'. Crazy dad in the middle trying to get an autograph
Imagine Jeb Bush ‘going the distance’. Imagine Hillary squeezing out of her email felonies and treason ‘going the distance’. Imagine Marco “I’ll amnesty them all” Rubio going the distance. Imagine Ben “City Dwellers don’t need guns” Carson ‘going the distance’. Imagine ANY of the others actually ‘going the distance’.
THAT is the scary part!
I’ve noticed a lot more hit pieces on the Donald. They even dragged Tavis Smiley out to call Trump a racist. Getting desperate and dirty....
We should be making mental notes and taking names of those on that bandwagon for later.
No, he just doesn't have contempt for the consent of the governed.
January 20, 2017 “I Donald Trump...” Yes it will happen.
Didn’t John Harwood get reamed by Trump?
They turn to be political weaklings [full stop].
What is also sad: Anyone who thinks that the anti-Trump forces would get behind a Cruz candidacy is a pathetic fool.
The GOPe want Bush/Rubio with Carly/Nikki as VP and by God they’re going to see that they get it.
It cuts the Ghordian knot of Obama's political pretzel hold. There is nothing complicated or nuanced about it nor can there be.
For the next four years we’re going to have to burn-up the phone lines to Washington to ensure that the RINOs in Congress get on board with his agenda.
That’s the guy.
Maybe if it was six months ago but it’s too late to stop Trump and Cruz now. Jebbie and Rubio are too badly weakened and neither of them have the fire in the belly. The GOPe are going to have to come to terms with Trump or Cruz getting the nomination because that’s what is going to happen.
The election is in the hands of Islam.
Trump got way ahead of the pack positioning himself as the man who would seal the borders and root out all the foreign Jihadi and Jihadi supporters who have come here.
He could fade, as he is a populist (sort of a 1972 Democrat frozen in time) and not an Idealogue. On other issues he is very hit and miss. And he has the baggage of having taken advantage of the Kelo versus New London decision.
But if Muslim violence continues to rise, that trends towards handing Trump the primaries and the election as a whole.
5 “debates” to go. Will they be significant?
May president Trump bring to trial ...and execute...Dorkbama the Muskim and Hillary.
Traitors deserve a most vile death.
You “just noticed” an increase in anti-Trump posts? Where have you been the last six months?
