Poll: 20% of Dems would defect for Trump
The Hill ^ | 01/09/16 | Sarah Ferris

About 20 percent of likely Democratic voters say they would buck the party and vote for Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump in a general election, according to a new poll.

The willingness of some Democrats to change sides could be a major problem for Democratic front-runner Hillary Clinton this fall.

The new figures were released by Mercury Analytics, a research company with clients that include MSNBC and Fox News, as the result of an online poll and dial-test of Trump's first campaign ad.

A smaller number of Republicans say they’d vote for Clinton - about 14 percent.

Ron Howard, the company's CEO and a Democrat, said he expected Trump’s first campaign ad to have "little impact - or in fact negative impact" on Democrats and independents. But the ad actually resonated with Democrats more than he expected.

About one-quarter of Democrats said they "agree completely" that the ad raises good points, with another 19 percent agreeing at least "somewhat."

"The challenge to Hillary, if Trump is the nominee and pivots to the center in the general election as a problem-solving, independent-minded, successful 'get it done' businessman is that Democrats will no longer be able to count on his personality and outrageous sound bites to disqualify him in the voters' minds," Howard said, according to U.S. News & World Report.

The company surveyed about 916 likely voters this week. The poll has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.5 percent.

:-)) the fact it is questionable over all gives cause to rejoice.

That's just the point: It is not "questionable."

Donald Trump has about as much of a chance of winning New York State as Carl Paladino does -which is zero.

Assuming Trump is the candidate, he's much better off focusing his efforts on states that he can win. Pennsylvania would be a huge pickup for him.

Here, I will do the math for you:

If all 20% of NY's 65% Democrats defected to Trump, that is 13% of the overall vote. Add that to Paladino's 35% and you get the following:

Clinton 52%, and Trump 48%.

.

How about Cruz’s even more recent conversion on illegals? Like in the last few weeks?

He did not have an illegal immigration plan for months, while the other candidates had detailed ones. He condescendingly said The American people don’t want to have that conversation’. I sure as hell did, so I found a new candidate with the balls to have that conversation. And then he got a plan but it was vague on what to do with the illegals here. He was using self-deportation, so the tens of millions get to stay (which us the definition of amnesty). And he covers up his real intent with lawyer words, like “I don’t intend to...”, instead of just saying it straight out. Even Rubio saw through that and says their plans are similar.

Only in the last few weeks did he add ‘deport ‘ to his online proposal, which sounds disingenuous to me.

Only someone ‘dim’ would believe a last minute change like that.

If it’s really an online poll is it in any way valid?

Online polls are useful for helping Rand Paul believe he has a national following, and that's about it.

Ps. I don’t insult first, only in response to being insulted first by a Cruz supporter.

Since so many of you feel the need to insult Trump supporters, because you are lacking anything good to say about your candidate obviously, I get to respond in kind.

the Free Trader frauds

I am always amazed when I see nominal conservatives arguing against free trade.

Do the names Smith, Hume, Hayek and Friedman mean anything to you?

You bet they did to Ronald Reagan.

How many Republicans will defect instead of voting for Trump? Do the numbers offset?

Bernservatives!

Sound like you were conned into these one sided free trade shams.

Hopefully that will all be changing in the future to trade policies which actually benefit America, not just a few greedy fatcorps which have zip zero allegiance to America.

“How about Cruz’s even more recent conversion on illegals”

Apparently you don’t follow TX politics because Cruz had the same plan of enforcing the laws, deporting, and building the wall since he first ran for senator in TX. He actually had a WRITTEN policy paper, which is more than we can say about Trump still.

“And he covers up his real intent with lawyer words, like I don’t intend to...”

That is the stupidest argument on FR. Cruz said “intends” because the courts or Congress could overrule him just as they can Trump. Trump is the only idiot that thinks he can build a wall, ban muslims, or deport all illegals on his own without funding and approvals by Congress. That just shows that Cruz knows how government works and Trump does NOT!

If you want to get technical and make assumptions about wording then you should really be concerned about Trump’s statements that he believes U.S. wages are all too high. Of course, Trumpets claim that Trumpet meant to say “minimum wages” only, but if Trump is as smart as all Trumpets think he is then his oversight must be intentional or else he is playing a role as a lawyer. He must have stayed at a Holiday Inn that night...ummmm

Apparently you also don’t understand the difference between completely changing a policy stance and clarifying and existing stance. Cruz only clarified his existing stance.

Trump, on the other hand, criticized Romney in the 2012 election for being too HARSH on illegals. Trump admits to employing illegals even now. So only a fool would believe that Trump is serious about getting rid of illegals.

The rest of Trump’s positions on an “assault” gun ban, abortion, and gay marriage have done a complete about face in the last two years, although he is still for gay marriage. That is far different than clarifying an existing policy. I could understand him evolving in one or two policies, but Trump has changed EVERY policy stance since 2012. He is nothing more than a fraud and Trumpets are too stupid to see it.

“Ps. I don’t insult first, only in response to being insulted first by a Cruz supporter”

Since my post was not even to you then, yes, you were the first to insult. Maybe you should just butt out of a conversation that isn’t to you if you don’t like the content.

I too am tired of all the lies and insults hurled by Trumpets toward Cruz and his supporters. It certainly isn’t one side by any means. Trumpets just can’t handle the facts and instead like to make up lies or hurl insults. I’ve caught more Trumpets lying on FR so far than I can count, much like your “intends” comment. It gets old.

Once again, a Cruz supporter resorts to insults. You do your candidate no good when you have no class.

Acting like liberals just makes you look low-IQ.

Virginia.

I see. That makes your anecdote more valuable, as Virginia is indeed a swing state where gun control backlash has been cited as a factor in recent Republican victories.

And if the DNC loses Virginia in the 2016 general election, it becomes very difficult for them to get to 270.

If I were you, I would lead with that, rather than trying to extrapolate my own personal experiences onto the national stage.

“Acting like liberals just makes you look low-IQ.

Well then you should stop acting like a liberal since you did start with the insults...

Of course, I’ve seen most of your posts so lies, false accusations, and insults seems to be pretty standard for you as it is with most Trump supporters.

Agreed that it would be great if every other country agreed to trade deals that benefitted us more than them. How do you propose we do that?

My original post was NOT to you!

You are a typical liberal Trumpturd because once again, I gave you facts and instead you’ve provided two posts containing nothing but insults. Try growing a pair...

I wasn’t lying. I was repeating verbatim what YOUR candidate said.

You can’t handle it so you accuse me of making it up, LOL!

He said he did not ‘intend’ to give illegals legal status. That has nothing to do with courts or congress. There’s no way either could force him to sign a bill granting such. That was a childish and illogical try in your part to cover up for him.

You’ve been told multiple times, we have stupid corrupt people negotiating for us, who are lining their own pockets while middle America is economically gang banged.

This is not complex.
