Charles Koch is "disappointed" with the line-up of Republican candidates in the 2016 cycle, and is surprised by the lack of influence he and his brother have wielded so far.
In an interview with the Financial Times, the billionaire businessman and philanthropist, said he'll eventually support a candidate who he agrees with on some things with, but that it's hard to get excited. He said a list presented to all the candidates about the Kochs' political arm's priorities "doesn't seem to faze them much. You'd think we could have more influence."
"It is hard for me to get a high level of enthusiasm because the things I'm passionate about and I think this country urgently needs aren't being addressed," he said. Koch also bashed the candidates currently leading the Republican field -- Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and businessman Donald Trump. Koch said that if Trump was successful with his proposal to require all Muslims entering the U.S. to register with the government, then "well, then you destroy our free society."
"Who is it that said, 'If you want to defend your liberty, the first thing you've got to do is defend the liberty of people you like the least'?" he continued.

People are awakened this election cycle because of Trump! Trump can't be bought! That's the issue with those funding Super PACS.
Go Trump!!
To keep a free society we better start removing all the muslims from it now.
If Charles needs to have influence so badly, he needs to follow in Trump’s footsteps by running for president in 2020. :)
No foreigner has the inherent right to enter any other country.
"Who is it that said, 'If you want to defend your liberty, the first thing you've got to do is defend the liberty of people you like the least'?" ...Charles Koch alone, apparently.
Sounds like a spoilt child having a hissy fit that amnesty isn’t going his way.
You’r right...Trump cannot be bought....much to the chagrin of Koch and Co.
Uh, oh....does this mean the libs have always been right complaining about the Koch brothers?
You don’t get a free society if you invite more fascist lovers into your country who vote against freedom. Why can’t they understand this
Because they are not interested in a “ free society”, for us.But for them.
Socialism isn’t for the “Socialists”, its for the people.
Your polka dot chart trumps CR’s simply because it’s animated.
And because it hasn’t been posted to death here on FR.
Koch then went on to attack Cruz's proposal to carpet-bomb ISIL. 'I've studied revolutionaries a lot," he said. "Mao said that the people are the sea in which the revolutionary swims. Not that we don't need to defend ourselves and have better intelligence and all that, but how do we create an unfriendly sea for the terrorists in the Muslim communities? We haven't done a good job of that."
Koch said that there are 1.6 billion Muslims worldwide and asked, what "are we going to do: go bomb each one of them?"
Mr. Koch needs help.
Bummer. Koch brothers and their fellow billionaires can’t buy the Presidency because Donald Trump can’t be bought and those pesky GOP voters have figured out how things work: superrich oligarch and plutocrat string pullers have been purchasing all of the candidates (from both parties) with “campaign donations”, and now we have a candidate who is immune to that influence.
Yet another salutary result of The Trump Effect.
Or they’re not nearly as influencial as the libs claim
Thank you. And I might add, because it is closer to the truth than CR’s.
Trump was dinged on Executive experience, getting the government under control. He was dinged on the Second Amendment. He was dinged on civil rights. He was dinged on unobstructed commerce, and trade.
If you’re a Conservative, he should be dinged on none of those things.
There’s no reason the U. S. should be forced to participate in suicide trade pacts. There no reason why he shouldn’t go after illegals. They shouldn’t be grandfathered with “OUR” civil rights. As for commerce, once again like trade, it should not be destructive to our nation. He has been very strident on the Second Amendment of late.
This was an out and out hatchet job by Levin. It was nonfactual, misguided, and has been used for months by someone with an IQ below freezing temperature.
Amen!
They had zero success in previous presidential elections. Why would this one be different?
Koch does not have the personality to connect & resonate with voters.
CR’s rating on Trump over the 2nd Ammendment is a head scratcher. It just makes me laugh at the chart whenever I see it.
It’s great that you and a few others are mocking it so visually nowadays!
