Father Kevin Payne is outraged after what he has deemed as a line-crossing two-minute pat down of his 10-year-old daughter Vendela by TSA at the Raleigh-Durham International Airport. The additional security was triggered by a juice pouch Vendela accidentally left in her carry-on bag.
"It was excessive, it was invasive, I was pretty much boiling in my head," he told ABC News. (source)
Payne recorded the pat down on his phone and uploaded the video to YouTube despite the fact that the TSA agent lied and told him that filming was not allowed (it absolutely is).
"While there was a SHOE BOMBER, Agent completely ignores shoes & quickly focuses on my 10 yr old child's buttox, thighs & pelvic areas," Payne wrote in the YouTube video of the incident he uploaded to YouTube.
It's tough to watch the part where it appears the agent is going to lift the girl's shirt. The girl reaches for the hem immediately, a pained look on her face at potentially being undressed in public. The agent pats down her thighs front and back multiple times and around the little girl's breasts.
It really is hard to watch. Her father wrote that he felt like he was watching his 5th grade daughter get assaulted.
And yet, he stood by filming it and watching it happen...
It's a wonder if Americans will ever rise up in mass and simply stop allowing themselves to be subjected to this guilty-until-proven-not-a-terrorist behavior. If everyone across the country simply refused fly for even one whole day to boycott this, it would stop. Instead, our nation's citizens continue to diligently trudge through the airports and subject themselves and their children to be groped and in some cases sexually assaulted by government goons day in and day out.
It's ridiculous, especially considering the TSA has already been found to completely fail at doing its job 95% of the time...
"When government fears the people there is liberty When the people fear the government there is tyranny." John Basil Barnhill, 1914
It is. Folks have three choices. Put up and shut up. Keep flying and fight in every way possible the abuses. Don't fly.
Another one of Little Bush's good ideas ...
I’ve seen the video and there’s nothing there-standard pat-down by a female TSA agent. I always get patted down (by a male) because I can’t go through the magnetometer.
I found that out the hard way just after TSA began screening. I volunteered at an airport and went to see if my shoes set off the detector. They did and that is all I wanted to know. The lady told me I had to be patted down. I told her what I was there for and went back to my job. Ten minutes later the police chief, TSA supervisor and another officer (Police knew me WELL), took me back and told me I was charged with a FELONY!! I literally got as sick as this man. When it was all over- after TWO hours, I was released with no charges but it had to go through the chain of command. DISGUSTING...the lady who told me this did not try and really stop me to make me understand. She just wanted a bonus....
Whenever I was there in the future and she was, I went through her checkpoint!!
Perhaps it is, but let us increase the stakes a little.
Let us assume a 10 year old was being raped, outright, by an FBI agent while others held the father by arm and leg, physically.
And a bystander who had guns drawn on him, photographed the assault.
I would agree that the photos are invasive, but the invasion of the rape is moreso... and evidence needs to be taken and preserved. Would you not agree?
Now we can decrease the stakes again, and come back to the particulars of this case.
The invasion of photography is still less than the invasion of the probing finger. I know you, Gwen, so I know you will see what I (and perhaps a few others, less elegantly) rightfully assert.
Homer, we’ve had many positive exchanges, as have Gwen and I. You are both awesome people, and I suggest there has been a misunderstanding. If you both can, re-engage with politeness, and I suspect you can clear it up.
TSA from the get go has been not much more than a job program for unemployables, perverts and political cronies. Redundant?
Then after the Uniparty unionized TSA, it has metastasized like a snowball rolling down hill.
As I understand it they cannot arrest you for insisting on not continuing the inspection process. You have the right to leave the airport and not board the plane. That doesn’t mean they won’t detain you by concocting some suspicion of potential harm to the public.
A couple of years after 9/11 I was in Manhattan for a seminar; as I entered the parking garage under a hotel they checked under the car, in the trunk, etc. for bombs. I realized then (a dozen years ago) that this is permanent; due to our litigious society they can never give the appearance that they aren’t trying to protect people. I say “give the appearance” because it has become quite clear (from the number of lapses, which can be attributed to the caliber of staff) that they are not going to spend the money required to really secure anything - and to be fair, they probably couldn’t stay in business if they tried.
When mosques opened on September 12th, 2001, we had lost.
I would call it being fingered.
I agree. I’m sitting here wondering what all the “huhu” is about.
Dunno. Sometimes people get online already pissed, sometimes a post rubs someone the wrong way. I intend to attempt to smooth things out between two of our better freepers.
I think the best thing Homeland Americans could do is to develop a website that amasses the details and evidence of oppression by the TSA on citizens. Publish articles by victims, and catalog and database the names and information of all the TSA employees involved - data having been gathered from whatever publically available sources can be found.
When they start wondering about their own personal liabilities, they will stop this sh!t.
I would appreciate that.
I don’t want to hear from you again either.
Fwiw, I was only speaking to the pictures of the little girl.....
...not the abuse by the TSA....
Why you decided to make it a personal attack on me, I don’t know....
...especially the hurtful words in your last posts
The little I’ve read of your previous posts I tended to agree with.
Strange that you should turn on me.
Oh well, after being here 16 years, I’ve found you can’t please everyone.
I understand where you're coming from. If the little girl was humiliated by the pat down it would seem that she would continue to be humiliated by the thousands of Youtube viewers and their, often times outrageous, comments. Also, the video is available for anybody to edit.
Sorry, that's the most ridiculous statement I've read in awhile. He needed to show proof. If he doesn't, nobody will believe him. Remember, a picture is worth a thousand words.
Excellent point,ki2.
On Sept. 12, 2001, Mecca and Medina should have ceased to exist, and we should have taken over the oil fields in Saudi Arabia.
The world would be a much better place today.
We were told to calm down, go shopping and Islam is a religion of peace.
Next time, that is not going to work.
A lot of what passes for security is really an illusion.
Real security is almost impossible to provide 100% of the time.
He should have sought assistance in film editing to place a blur on her face so that she would be anonymous. The film shot is valuable as documentary proof that procedures and profiling must change.
OTOH, if the little girl was wearing a Burka or a Muslim veil .....
I don’t. I went through one “check point” right after they begin. It was 2002 or 2003. When they were mostly using rental cops. My wife and I had to remove our shoes, I had to empty my pockets. They went through her purse. While I was putting my shoes back on, I saw a group of people dressed in Mid Eastern garb walk right on through and no one at the check point said a word. I said to myself that when I got beck home that I would never get into another airplane as long as they did this crap. Up to now, I have not flew again. I am in the minority, I know that. Most people that I talked to about it say that they do not mind getting their butt probed with someone’s finger, “as long as it makes them secure”.
The TSA agent is a RACIST and a pedophile.
