FOX Poll: Ted Cruz Still On Top in Iowa Over Donald Trump
Fox News ^ | 1/9/16 | Jeff Halpern

Posted on 01/08/2016 4:11:12 PM PST by VinL

Donald Trump is still the top pick for Republicans nationwide, but in Iowa, the billionaire is playing catch up.

More than a third of Republicans nationwide tell a FOX News survey they support Donald Trump's bid for the nomination, but that 35% figure is actually down from last month. Senators Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio follow at 20 and 13%.

Trump dominates the field in New Hampshire as well, leading with 33%. Rubio is second, but well behind at 15%.

But in Iowa, it's Cruz still in control. The Texas Senator led Trump in last month's poll and has increased his lead 27-23, and is the top choice among self described very conservative caucus goers and white Evangelicals.

Iceman. I appreciate your post and your thoughts. You are correct. Unfortunately VinL is one of the nastiest people on this forum which is unfortunate. The Reuters Poll thread today was a nice example of a civil discourse between Trump and Cruz supporters. Have a good weekend.

Thanks USA

I've been guilty of getting down into the gutter as well. It's too easy when the insults start flying.

Time to turn a leaf and make sure one of these two is our next president.

All the other options are a loss.

Vin...Trump responded to a question from a reporter, he did not “attack” Cruz...just as he responded to a question back in September, he did not say that Cruz was fine, he said he was told Cruz was fine. He certainly kept the ball in the air this week, but he didn’t attack. It’s obvious he has respect for Cruz and vice versa...and that’s a good thing. They’re going to need each other to withstand the onslaught that’s about to come from the GOPe, and later, if it works out that way, as a ticket against Clinton. If he didn’t respect Cruz he would have unloaded on him just like every other candidate he has done so, including just recently, Bill Clinton.

Rush, Levin, etc., don’t want to see these two zinging each other, but it’s part of the game and I suspect it will continue, though I don’t think it will be overt...it will be veiled and between the lines...they’re both in it to win.

If Trump gets the nod, he is going to need friends. Ted has learned that too...I hope.

I guess if you look at it that way, more people would want to rub elbows with Trump than Cruz IMO.

Cruz is like the strict father that you know is right but don't want to be around. ;-)

How the 2016 Republican Primaries Will Work

The first states to hold primaries, as usual, will be Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina and Nevada. Voters in those states will go to the polls in February under the party rules passed in 2014.

States that attempt to jump ahead of those four states will be punished with the loss of delegates.

States that hold their primaries between March 1 and March 14, 2016, will award their delegates on a proportional basis, meaning that no one candidate could likely win the nomination before late-voting states get to hold their primaries.

States voting on March 15, 2016, or later will award their delegates on a winner-take-all basis, meaning candidates will likely pay more attention to them.

http://uspolitics.about.com/od/Election-2016/fl/2016-Republican-Primaries-How-Delegates-Will-be-Awarded.htm

*****************************************************

I know some later primaries like CA award winner take all based on Congressional districts. For example in CA there are 3 superdelegates picked by the party, 10 for the overall winner, and 3 for the winner of each of 53 Congressional district (159), for a total of 172.

If you really can’t comprehend what Trump actually said, you really do have the maturity of a 1st grader. And the level of thinking equivalent to a thin-skinned liberal.

I know exactly what he said, so does everyone else. Spin it any which way you wish in order to soothe your internal dissonance, but we all know exactly what Anita Trump said and what he intended.

He’s your guy- hope you proud of his comportment.

We shouldn't use the Birther term of the left.

I'm a big Trump supporter and would certainly support Cruz if he won the nomination. I think it's fairly obvious that Trump is hitting Cruz at a political weak spot. It's nothing though compared to what the Dems will do to him come the General Election. If Cruz can't survive this he'd have absolutely zero chance in the General.

Jeff Kuhner, whose radio show is on at the same time as Rush, said Trump helped Cruz by bringing up ineligibility. I agree.

Cruz is visiting every County in Iowa. Trump is everywhere else. With all of the effort that Cruz has put into Iowa, if he doesn’t win it, it will be bad for him.

It’s a 4% margin of error, so it’s a statistical tie, but I’d rather be up than down

Or it could be Cruz 31, Trump 19

That said, the poll is among the old landline dominant variety with about 2/3 to 1/3 balance between landline and cellphone.

Those are the methods that have been proven wrong around the globe recently.

They worked fine in the last presidential elections in this country. I still remember how a lot of Freepers were hopeful that the polls had under counted conservative/Republican votes because of land line/ cell phone ratios etc, and Obama still won pretty much according to the national polls.

Like for like, Trump is down 3 points in this Fox poll. Trump was at 26% in the last Fox poll, and at 23% in this one.

but interestingly he’s about to see his overall lead on RCP fall because the big 10 point DMR poll will soon fall off.

To be replaced by another DMR poll.
Further, even if a new DMR poll doesn't come out, Cruz is still leading Trump by 40 to 31 in the CBS poll which will still be in the RCP average. Further, Cruz's RCP average lead over Trump actually went up with this Fox poll.

PPP should be out any day

Cruz was leading Trump by 7% in the last PPP poll.

Birther Anita Hill?

More like Ted Cruz (and VinL) throws the Constitution into the toilet bowl.

Does anyone really believe the founders would consider say an anchor baby with Chinese parents a natural born citizen that would be eligible to serve as POTUS? What about the children of all the trophy wives living in the middle east or Russia are those all natural born citizens and also eligible to serve as POTUS?

Some adult female gets infatuated with say an ISIS fighter and goes to Syria, gets knocked up and has a child. That child lives with his dad until he is an adult then the child comes to the USA and that child is a NBC and can run for president? This scenario is exactly why the founders put the NBC clause into the Constitution. Void it and you or your children will regret it.

I’ve lost all respect for Mark Levin and Rush Limbaugh, it appears both are willing to trash the Constitution in order to elect Cruz. Shame on both of them.
