Texas Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX)97% has repeatedly defended his eligibility to be president this week, but wondering whether his Canadian birthplace would prevent him from running for the office has been on his mind since at least childhood, a classmate of his tells CNN.

But, as has been pointed out, his father wasn’t a citizen. Therefore, the strict definition from the framers would mean Cruz isn’t eligible.

Hey, bright eyes, you may be on to something there. But, of course, ONLY if Ted Cruz was CLONED from his father and didn’t have a natural mother.

But bright eyes, Ted Cruz had an actual mother...who just happened to be an American citizen. But maybe you demand proof from Ted’s campaign that he wasn’t cloned. After all, to Leftists and Cult of Personality types, it’s the seriousness of the charge that counts and not whether the charge is true.

I learned last night that the reason Trump did this was two fold, believe it or don’t.

1. I think he got tipped off that in a debate whether ours or with Hillary, he was going to be asked, “You pushed the birther issue on Obama why not with your opponents?” So, he brought it, or was asked about it.

2. I think he’s getting the issue out in the open for Cruz to deal with and resolve, esp if he’s going to ultimately choose him as a VP.

Unlike Obama, our side plays by the rules.

The law is very clear...

The "law" has nothing to do with it.

Natural Law is different than government law. Natural Law was referenced in the very first sentence of our founding document.
When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.

I say again Natural Law supersedes government law and Natural Law is what gave us the right to be our own nation. Government law said the founders were traitors, Natural said they were patriots. Government law says two men can get married Natural Law says marriage is between a man and a woman. Only a Natural (law) Born Citizen may constitutionally serve a President of the United States.

There are three types of citizenship
* Natural Born Citizen, two citizen parents born on soil (exceptions for foreign born if parents are abroad in service to country)
* Citizen by birth, foreign born to citizen parent(s)
* Naturalized citizen, a person made a citizen by statute.

I note on the following

The authors cite to the Naturalization Act of 1790 and ignore the fact that the Naturalization Act of 1795, with the lead of then-Rep. James Madison and with the approval of President George Washington, repealed it and specifically changed "shall be considered as natural born citizens" to "shall be considered as citizens of the United States."

James Madison the "father of the Constitution" changed the wording from "natural born citizen" to "citizen". Madison was no dope and the change was to prevent a foreign born from becoming Commander in Chief. But this also serves to illustrate that "citizen at birth" does not mean "natural born citizen".

A natural born citizen is so because of Natural Law not government laws. Some one born on soil with two citizen parents is a natural born citizen because no other sovereign but the sovereign of the soil he was born on has any claim to his elegance.

This is not rocket science.

If you followed the birther threads, as I know you did, you know very well that none of the options held out with such certainty have ever been confirmed with finality by a court of competent jurisdiction.

All of the arguments about "Obama" (whoever he really is) apply equally to Cruz, except the "he was born in Kenya to a foreign father" argument.

If his mother was in fact a Canadian citizen when he was born, there is a problem which will need to be resolved IF he remains in the race after March.

Personally, I believe the race will be over by then and that he will not be the winner, but that remains to be seen.

Along those same lines, think of all the dirt they will dig up in a flip flopping former RAT who has been in the business world with his lips firmly placed on politicians rears for 3-4 decades...

Trump is their dream candidate... He is a loud, boisterous liar who flips back and forth on positions with zero consistency.

He’s getting kid glove treatment by the media right because this is primary season. He is the dream candidate for the liberal media on the republican side because in the end, he will ensure a Clinton presidency.

He showed his true colors once again by pushing this birther nonsense, even if he was just “responding” to the reporter. The 5-6 other times he has brought it up since just continue to reinforce he intentionally is flipping from his position on the matter just last September...

The GPH yo-yo is a plant to stir crap while not supporting or backing any real causes - his opinions are as worthless as his non-donations.

He has lots of company - folks who claim to have the answers but don't have the morals/ethics to actually put their money where their mouths are (of course, for them it would be akin to using money as toilet paper).

Cruz has folks doing the same dance to try to insure we get another crap in the bowl nominee instead of someone who is up to the job.

Seems that Cruz and Trump have brought all the loonies out and their stars are aligned so they have no choice but to smugly utter platitudinous BS while standing for nothing.

Reading the article, isn’t it the classmate (not Cruz) talking when he says, “ because *I* pointed to him and said he was a dual citizen...”

Where does it show that Cruz himself “identified” as a dual citizen as the headline implies? Cruz knew he was born in Canada, but didn’t know he had Canadian citizenship until later. You can google where his family never applied for it and they did not know Canada did it automatically and nine months after learning Canada had done it, he had completed the process to renounce it.

Did I miss something or is the whole article one big strawman argument?

Trump is right, the facts you present will be brought up and discussed at great length which will interfere with the election process. I would hate to see happen to Cruz what SHOULD have happened to Obuma. If indeed Cruz’s parents did renounce U.S. citizenship, then how can Cruz be NBC? I have opposed birthers in the past but this is a situation I’m not sure about.
