Some 63% of people can't deal with a $500 emergency.
Americans are starting 2016 with more job security, but most are still theoretically only one paycheck away from the street.
Approximately 63% of Americans have no emergency savings for things such as a $1,000 emergency room visit or a $500 car repair, according to a survey released Wednesday of 1,000 adults by personal finance website Bankrate.com, up slightly from 62% last year. Faced with an emergency, they say they would raise the money by reducing spending elsewhere (23%), borrowing from family and/or friends (15%) or using credit cards to bridge the gap (15%).

Just sayin'
You never know with the idiot electorate, they may vote for MORE Gubermint rescue.
I find these figures horrifying.
I was born in the Great Depression and we learned early on to have back-up money———and we’d do without things to make sure that was possible.
.
The $3.00-$4.00/gallon gas from 2009-2013 didn’t help.
Thank you, Obama.
Thank you, Pelosi
/s
Can’t be, we have been Living La Vida Obama for the last seven years.
Those reaches into $5 at the pump didn’t help either. Thank you to all of the dim traitors.
Truth is, the government has little to do with fluctuating oil prices.
It’s really that simple.
I could swear taco Tuesdays at taco casa 2 yeas ago was 89c each.
Yesterday? $1.29 ea
In the short run, you’re right. But blocking the Keystone pipeline, declaring Alaskan areas off limits to drilling, regulating refineries into the ground, severely restricting offshore drilling, and other impediments to the oil industry produce artificial scarcity, which puts upward pressure on prices. Fracking is what produced the current low prices not because of but in spite of the administration’s efforts.
I haven’t been in that position since my second year in college. Saving one’s money is one of the keys to happiness.
That said, why does a welfare mother need to save money? She has a guaranteed check from Uncle every month.
This generation is effing weak.
And that $3-$4 gallon gas will be back some day in the future.
They make more money off gas, a higher percentage, than the convenience store owners do. For doing absolute jack sh1t and making it harder for businesses to operate.
She has a check from US. Uncle Sam is all of US.
Time to starve the monkeys.
I remember when the Subway 6-inch sub, chips, and soda was $2.49+tax. It has been within Zero’s 2 terms the cost has gone up to $6.00 +tax.
Amen.
The peoples Zero
I’m sure.
In the meantime, the lower prices are like having an extra $100.00 per week.
By ‘starve the monkeys’, what do you mean?
If you’re referring to a specific race, that’s dirty pool.
Remember that there are lots of people from a LOT of different races who rely on the government.
And, once they’ve been ‘starved’, are they to just die? I’m sure many here would like that!/s
