Real-estate tycoon Donald Trump said Wednesday that the US should pressure China into getting North Korea under control.
"It's something I've been talking about for a long time. You have this madman over there who probably would use it," Trump said during an interview on "Fox & Friends."
"And nobody talks to him, other than of course Dennis Rodman," he said. "That's about it."
Trump was referring to North Korea's supreme leader, Kim Jong Un, while addressing North Korea's announcement Tuesday night that it had successfully conducted a hydrogen-bomb test.
Many experts are skeptical that North Korea actually detonated a hydrogen bomb, citing the country's long history of misleading and false claims. But if it did, the incident would represent a significant escalation of the volatile country's nuclear arsenal.
Trump, the Republican presidential front-runner, argued on Fox News that China had the unique ability to curb North Korea's nuclear ambitions. China has long been a benefactor to North Korea and is its primary foreign ally, though the two countries have diverged over Pyongyang's development of nuclear weapons and disruptive regional policies.
"China has ⦠total control over North Korea," Trump said. "And China should solve that problem. And if they don't solve the problem, we should make trade very difficult for China.
"We are holding China up," he added. "They're taking so much money. They're draining our country, and they're toying with us with North Korea. China should do it. They say they can't, they 'don't have that power.' They're toying with our politicians, who don't know what they're doing."
Trump said he would also lean on the US' economic ties and military alliance with South Korea.

I think that the PRC could engineer a coup, if they really wanted to. But then they would be stuck with a failed state and a tide of refugees fleeing into Chinese territory. So far, that appears to be a worse outcome for the PRC than the current regime.”
China need instability that negatively affects its rivals (S. Korea, Japan, U.S.). It forces us to keep them “happy’ because with a war, or embargo, our economy goes into the toilet.
If China loses half their population through starvation they will still have more people than we do. Mao planned it that way.
Who else warned of Bin Laden two years before he attacked?
Engineer the coup, then let South Korea take it over. Foreign aid would roll in from countries all over the world and China wouldn't have a refugee problem.
One thing I like about Trump is instead of saying “WE should do this and WE should do that” he says someone else needs to be held responsible. However, I do realize what little control we do have over China....
Plenty of people warned of Bin Laden two years before he attacked.
Osama bin Laden was already a household name by the late 90's.
China cut off NK’s train access before.
People assume that NK is a puppet state of China, but NK had Russian, not Chinese, pilots flying against us during the Korean War.
Putin is pissed off at Obama, too. It’s *entirely* possible that NK wants to do something to gain favor with Russia.
It’s *entirely* likely that NK wants to be courted by *both* Russia and China. NK would love to play Russia and China against each other to gain the most from both.
NK just saw the USA’s amateur team give away the farm to Iran for a nuclear deal, too.
Pyongyang is licking its chopsticks thinking about the noodle in our White House cutting Kim Jon Un an even better, more prestigious deal.
...and the *only* Westerner talking to him is Dennis Rodman.
Because the current Administration is so amateurish and wrong-headed, Rodman is the most responsible adult in the room.
Sheesh...
So Trump would deal with North Korea by farming it out to China and hoping for the best. Good to know.
You get a small fusion reaction by default from a boosted fission device.
NK could be technically correct that their boosted fission bomb produced a fusion reaction.
No. The USA is China's biggest customer, and China is already struggling to prop up their stock market due to their drop in exports. All of the PLA and PRC big-wigs are major stockholders in state enterprises and private offshoots. Their personal wealth is being destroyed by the current market sell-off, and economies do not respond well to turmoil, much less more turmoil.
China wants the opposite of the above.
" If China loses half their population through starvation they will still have more people than we do. Mao planned it that way."
No. All of that changed once China implemented its One Child Policy. They only repealed OCP this year, 2016. It will take 20 years before the repeal of OCP gives China a population advantage over India, if then, and being half the size of India is nowhere on any of China's leadership agenda.
send in the Clowns , I hear Kim Jong Un is afraid of Clowns , Oh are Obama and Kerry free right now
Yeah, international business tycoon Donald Trump is a loser!

China could and should engineer a coup and then occupy the country and setup a stable government. With the help of the South and the West, the people could be fed and the country stabilized. A smart president like Trump or Cruz could even support the Chinese coup and occupation with that caveat that like Hong Kong was given back to China, that the North would be reunited with the South after x number of years.
Multiple bankruptcy Trump? The guy who would be richer if he gave his money to a money manager than running it himself? The one who has made his fortune on being outrageous? Yep.
Ignorant progressives throw this meme up all the time and are proven fools when the facts come out. You might want to learn about American bankruptcy laws. For instance, did you know that Texaco filed for bankruptcy in April 1987?
I know about the bankruptcy laws. I am an attorney. Trump is not the financial genius you would like to believe, nor has he done anything that qualifies him to be President. If you want Hillary type policies on all but immigration and an Obama-type personality, by all means, continue to worship your idol, but I’d rather see a conservative candidate, and Trump, who is to the left of Mitt Romney on most issues, ain’t it.
