Mitt Romney opens up on his doubts about Jeb Bush
Washington Post Daily 202 ^ | 1/4/16 | James Hohmann

-Mitt Romney says concern about Jeb Bush's electability was a major reason he seriously considered running for president a year ago.

"A Bush-versus-Clinton head-to-head would be too easy for the Democrats," he told my colleagues Dan Balz and Philip Rucker during an interview last week in Boston for a broader story about the political events of 2015.

The 2012 GOP nominee recalled thinking, "I like Jeb a lot, I think he'd be a great president, but felt he was unfairly but severely burdened by the W. years - and when I say the W. years, it's not only what happened to the economy, but the tragedy in Iraq."

Mitt says he expressed this point to Bush's face during a private sit-down in Utah last Jan. 22nd.

"Jeb, to be very honest, I think it's very hard for you to post up against Hillary Clinton and to separate yourself from the difficulty of the W. years and compare them with the Clinton years," Romney recalls telling the former Florida governor when they met at his house in a Salt Lake City suburb. Romney says Bush responded by saying "he was going to make his campaign about the future, not about the past."

Losers both. Mittens doesn't understand that Jeb is losing to Trump, Cruz and Carson and others at this point, not Hillary.

So someone has now convinced this loser that he’ll be the PERFECT alternative in a brokered convention that will go against the votes of the American people. These establishment types will have their way come hell or high water.

he was ... severely burdened...

There he goes again with the "severe"... whenever he says it, it's like chalk screeching on a blackboard.

I’d say Mittens is smarter than Jeb but then who isn’t.

“Look, I had one person who was running for president, and I won’t give you the name … called me and said, ‘I hope you don’t close the door. We may need you.’ That’s a person running for president! A candidate. A Republican. I’m not giving it a second thought.”

Wee little Graham doesn’t count, Willard.

None of them respect the base enough to listen, let alone act on input.

I'd be shocked to see either at a Mensa meeting.

If the “elites” wangle a brokered convention and put up
anyone but whoever honestly wins the nomination; this time
I WILL either stay home on election day or else vote for the
THIRD PARTY candidate.

Dirty tricks by the GOPe is the quickest way for them to get
HITLER-Y elected. (Probably what they want anyway.)

Mitt Romney lost because he was an elite brain-dead RINO... He would lose again if he ran...

Bush’s main problem is his desire for unending cheap illegal labor to undermine American workers. AND that as an elite he’s totally out of touch with everyday Americans.

For all his flaws, Romney still was a much better candidate than Jeb! is. At least Romney's desire to enforce work restrictions on illegals so they'd "self-deport" would have been a move in the right direction. RomneyCare killed him, though.

Jeb! is just beyond horrible. Wrong on that critical issue, and a terrible campaigner to boot.

Add McCain to the mix (with Dole and Romney) and you have a trifecta of advice, all bad.
