He found himself a refugee at 12 years old, crammed onto a boat with no toilets, shoulder-to-shoulder with men who had soiled themselves. There was no room to sleep, no food and very little water. This boy had never seen the ocean before. Yet here he was, three days at sea now, and this ramshackle boat, tossed in heavy winds and high waves, began sinking. Grown men began screaming for help. Passengers locked below deck pounded against the door. ... For a brief, strange moment, I was calm, "So, this is how you will die."
In his new memoir "The Lightless Sky," Gulwali Passarlay recounts his harrowing life as a young, unwilling refugee...He also, quite uncomfortably, talks about his religious and philosophical journey from East to West. Passarlay was born in 1994 in eastern Afghanistan, one year after the Taliban had retaken control... Instead, for fun, Passarlay's uncles and grandfather would take him to town squares, where he watched a half-naked man nearly whipped to death by the Vice and Virtue Committee. His crime? Not praying that day.

"Some of my friends got involved in extremist radical Islamist groups," Passarlay writes. "These groups prey on the vulnerable and lonely . . . they are masters at seizing on and manipulating a person's traumas or unresolved issues."
But his foster family and British schoolteachers ---some Muslim themselves --- encouraged [him]... Passarlay is now a student at the University of Manchester in his now beloved adopted country, works for various aid groups and dreams of going home one day and running for president of Afghanistan. He still has nightmares and says he will never be free of the physical, emotional and mental suffering he endured.

If they would stop the killing, headchopping, raping, mutilation, destroying, goathumping and shave the beards they would be really nice people.
Throw ISLAM in the garbage, accept Christ, Become a Christian Family.
However, now they are under the glare of worldwide scrutiny and the media reveal what the media want to reveal, that is, what sells the best.
The media wouldn't expound on the good part of their culture. Why would they? Who cares? Folks revel in the bizarre. The fact that they are so old a culture says that SOMEthing worked for them.
There are wealthy folks there, making most of their money from drugs...which they sell to the West.
Those who emigrate will find almost nothing in common with the West save for a vertebral column and brain stem.
Islam is of the devil. Life and love has absolutely no meaning in Islamic culture. It is pay pay pay, pain, suffering, submit, suffer, die.
Only in Christ can you be set free.
Overcoming? Taqyyia ... for Western consumption. Buy it and be ready to learn the joys of conversion, of Sharia. Good news for all those women who can’t seem to tell the difference between Christainity and Islam ... you too can become some guy’s property.

I read the article, as long as it was. Riveting story.
I saw a few glimmers of reflection here and there from the author when contemplating his Islamic faith. He had the perspective of time to observe the Taliban aspect, the compulsive stridency, adherence past the point of being cruel and unfeeling toward others.
He saw the dysfunctionality of a faith that allows little boys to publically humiliate and command their mothers to behave in certain ways.
What I did not see in the article, was a concious and purposeful rejection of Sharia. I suppose every process must have it’s starting point, however minute.
Is that enough for you or do you insist on considering them less? Having all we have doesn't make us one iota better than they are...at least in the eyes of God. I don't think the worse for them either because of their culture and tradition.
Is your condemnation of them a sign of your own Christian values?
How "Christian" of you to express yourself so. Do you think/believe that Jesus would approve of your distain and reviling of them?
There is no reason for me to be ashamed of my disdain for that disgusting culture. I don’t believe Jesus would want me to embrace those disgusting practices. Please don’t tell me what it means to be a Christian, while you’re defending Islam, and insisting it’s just as good as Christianity. It isn’t.

That IS what they do over there to convicted murderers. Barbaric.
Much better here, that is, to spend twenty years going through the court system, on the taxpayers, of course, just to insure the murderer of his rights.
The attorneys get rich; the murderer lives on and on and the victims get diddly.
One thing: there are no repeat murders from them...can't sew back on a head.

Islam’s moderation will never happen in the West. It will have to happen in their own countries.
All islam is radical islam.
There are just ‘backslid’ muslims who aren’t killing the infidel right NOW.
You have no idea if they will hear the one phrase at next weeks prayers that will radicalize them.
Or they get afraid of ‘hell’ and the ‘sins’ they’ve committed and decide to guarantee their entry into heaven by blowing themselves up in a crowd of infidels.
But moreover, you can’t guarantee any of their descendants won’t do such a thing. ‘Because Islam’.
It’s a bad bet to invite ANY muslims, even the ‘non practicing moderates’ who drink, go to strip joints and eat pig. Because taqiyya, kitman and other practices of deceit they’re allowed to use to trick the infidel long enough to gain numerical/political superiority.
I grew up in a country that’s 50% muslim. Friends of ours there think the US is absolutely nuts for letting in ANY ‘refugees’. Ie, Islamic migrants.

I ask you this, have you ever lived (and I don’t mean as part of the US military or on a corporate ‘compound’) in a third world country?
Yes or no.
There’s a reason we have potable water dispensed INSIDE our homes, water seal flush potties in every residence that wants them, reliable electricity and other ‘conveniences’ that make ours a civilized existence at the very least w/o rampant disease.
‘Culture’ is part of that. A very integral part of that.
All cultures are NOT equal.
Cultures that allow incest will never achieve anything close to civilization. The birth defects, MENTAL ILLNESS and IQ deprivation will always have them in mud huts.
The Pashtuns (Pathans to the British) are unique. One theory is that they are the oldest continuous ethno-linguistic culture on Earth. They have a strong identity that they promote among themselves - Pashtun first, more than being muslim or Afghan or anything else.
They follow the Pashtunwali - the code of the Pashtuns. They value being good hosts, protecting those in their care, maintaining their honor, and exacting revenge for offenses (even if it takes generations). As they say, if it takes a hundred years to get revenge, you are rushing it.
Winston Churchill said about them: “The Pathan tribes are always engaged in private or public war. Every man is a warrior, a politician and a theologian. Every large house is a real feudal fortress....Every family cultivates its vendetta; every clan, its feud.... Nothing is ever forgotten and very few debts are left unpaid.”
It is a pretty rough culture - they try to toughen up the boys, and the man of the house traditionally rules like a tyrant.
On the plus side, they are real stand up guys when they are on your side, like the guy who gave refuge to Navy Seal Marcus Luttrell, popularized in the movie “Lone Survivor”. They are emblematic of the extraordinary resistance to the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan - fighting on for a decade despite armor blitzkrieg, carpet bombing, mass mining, extensive secret police and the torture chambers at Pol-i-Charki.
