Now that he’s predicted a win in Iowa, Ted Cruz needs to be right
Dallas Morning News ^ | 1/4/15 | Todd Gilman

Ted Cruz has to win the Iowa caucuses.

Not because there's something magical about Iowa or its predictive powers.

No, Cruz can't afford to lose in Iowa because he's already predicted, unequivocally and without reservation, that he will win Iowa. And while Cruz is in so many ways an unconventional politician, there are certain immutable rules in politics.

One is that falling short of expectations in Iowa or New Hampshire is bad.

"He will win Iowa. We're very confident he will win Iowa," Cruz campaign co chairman Chad Sweet declared last month.

It's a bold prediction, though not outside the realm of possibility.

By mid December, Cruz had already overtaken billionaire Donald Trump in Iowa.

And to cement his lead, he embarks Monday on a six day barnstorming tour that includes stops in 28 of Iowa's 99 counties. That will bring him close to a "full Grassley", a feat he vowed last June to complete. It's named for U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley, the Iowa Republican who makes it a point to visit every county in the state each year.

Lots of these counties have more livestock than voters, and that's not just a saying. The last U.S. census counted 6,462 people in Osceola County, the least populous on Cruz’s itinerary this week, and the last U.S. Agriculture Department report showed 38,500 head of cattle.

Turnout in the big cities of Des Moines, Cedar Rapids and Davenport will overshadow even a landslide in such a tiny pocket. But from Muscatine to Spirit Lake, it warms an Iowan's heart to know that a potential president cares enough to try.

Cruz certainly has put more effort into the state than most. He has volunteers in every county. He's rented a college dorm outside Des Moines for Texas supporters to live in when...

"If the Caucuses were held right now:

Cruz: 42% 56,700"

Where are you getting these numbers? That would mean Cruz will pull 33 people per precinct. As the pictures shows, he can't even attract 33 people to a room in Fort Dodge.

You caught me agreeing with another poster. I was just saying if ever there was a “last stand” operation going on, I do think it would be Cruz in Iowa among a some pollsters. I am unaware which ones are independent truly, and which ones are sponsored by PACs, etc.

I meant a citizen representative (in this case, president) and not one more politician, that a citizen (a non-pol) can run and win a presidency.

What I’m sure of is that you’ve been asked several times- whether you are for or against gay marriage-— and you refuse to answer.

It's special Sauce LoL.

Trump's crowd in Fort Dodge, IA and several also behind Trump to compare with Cruz's 33 FD rally goers.

Eveything I said was true. Look at my posting history. Cruz just showed himself as a phony to me as time went on.

I’m not arguing anything you say, here. But both IOWA and the South are notably deeper benched with evangelical voters and religious right than are blue states, labor interests, and the socialists residing predominately in the North.

Polling has indicated that even the Evangelical vote is split pretty evenly between our two contenders. FR is only one example.

Elsewhere there are those who do support TRUMP, but who are on the QT about it. Some private poll reported that TRUMP may be polling 6-8% lower than he actually is, because of some of the voters who can’t say it out loud. I presumed it may be some Independents, but mostly moderate Democrats and maybe some Evangelicals. Who knows.

Nothing you say is true. You need to find yourself something else to do besides trolling Cruz threads.

you keep telling yourself that and convincing yourself with pictures.

As for Webster County (Fort Dodge), Cruz has at least 400 votes at the moment, probably more.

Projections: 1,155

Cruz: 500 43%
Trump: 275 24%
Rubio: 175 15%
Carson: 90 8%
Bush: 45 4%
Huckabee: 25 2%
Christie: 20 2%
Fiorina: 15 1%
Santorum: 10 1%
