Two Saudi Arabian nationals have been arrested and a third is wanted for illegally renting firearms and purchasing ammunition at a shooting range in Poway.
Saad Mutlak Alsahli, Muath Ahmed Alraqibah and Abdulrahman Abdullah Alolaymi rented a Sig Sauer 9mm pistol and a Bravo .223 caliber rifle and bought 100 rounds of .223 caliber ammunition and 50 rounds of 9mm ammunition at the Poway Weapons and Gear gun range for target practice, according to a Southern District of California court complaint.

Extremely common on shooting ranges to record it. Check it on YouTube sometime.
I’m sure it was all completely innocent ...
because the third Saudi, Alraqibah, left the U.S. before authorities could arrest him. There is a warrant out for his arrest.
I read somewhere that the ChiComs coming for vacay like to shoot guns.
“They were video taping their âpractice sessionâ. Seems a little odd.”
Nah, when I go to a public range here there are often Japanese tourist who rent everything, shoot a pile of ammo, and film the whole thing. Where they come from they never get to see firearms, let alone get the barrel hot. Bragging rights for the folks at home.
..and holding a gun at a range is not possession because no transfer took place...
Under both Federal and State laws everywhere, posession of anything and not limited to drugs, firearms, residences, books computers, and vehicles simply means having it under your immediate control. No more. No less. In your hands is control too whether you own, rent, or borrow. That’s an example of immediate control. You get the idea.
I saw somewhere that Japanese tourists typically do two things while here.
They buy as much steak as the legally can carry home and go shooting.
I guess there is no “Foreign Student No-Buy-No-rent-No- Way List, but Cuomo, Malloy, et alii, Obummer want a list of all US gun owners.
The Feds apparently disagree with you, or perhaps focused on the ammo purchase instead of the rental. The range didn’t think it odd until they started video recording, maybe irked that they were playing around. Or there might be more to the story.
Here’s how the Feds could charge them with possession.
Constructive possession is a legal theory used to extend possession to situations where a person has no hands-on custody of an object. Most courts say that constructive possession, also sometimes called “possession in law,” exists where a person has knowledge of an object plus the ability to control the object, even if the person has no physical contact with it (United States v. Derose, 74 F.3d 1177 [11th Cir. 1996]).
What is a Poway? I never heard of that breed. Is it dangerous?
BS. You don’t know what you’re talking about. When you go to the gunstore in another state, and ask to hold a handgun, you are not “in possession”.
Firearms law is quite different from dope law.
No transfer took place and they will win this case. The proof is that the FFL will not be prosecuted for transferring guns to them.
And calling the cops doesn’t let them out of it. Think a store can sell a gun to a felon and or prohibited person and just call the cops and say, “hey, we fyi, just sold a gun to a prohibited person”?
Another way it differs is in product liability and it needing to go before consumer product safety commission.
Not that I doubt you, but how does the NRA get away with it’s youth programs?
I tried to go to the source link and my computer crashed.
From reading farther down-thread it appears that the visa they were here on prohibited them from handling firearms.
What I was going to say originally was that in Hawaii they have firing ranges that cater to Japanese tourists - they get to shoot big American handguns and even full-auto stuff.
Should have pinged you to 34 also
The NRA gets away with it because he’s simply not correct. This is an eager beaver fed and a prosecuting attorney, both probably graduated college in 2010 and think they wrote the law.
Its in SoCal so they want to look tough after San Berdoo. They are guaranteed to lose the case and the NRA will side with the Saudis. Strip away the emotions of a Saudi and call it a Canadian tourist and this case never happens.
I hate Saudis as much as anyone and don’t think they should be here. But this is a bad arrest and will be overturned quickly.
Poway is extremely,,
well , the thing is
a small town North of San Diego.
92064 is the area code.
not that I live there .
Jihadis just wanna have fun.
Well that one is easy! If you pay taxes, vote for Republicans and aren't impaired by a criminal history or mental illness, there is an excellent chance that you own a gun!
This range incident seems strange though. They didn't think it was unusual that they left Saudi driver's licenses, but thought it was unusual that they video taped the target shooting? Maybe after San Bernardino the Feds received a message from high places -- "Round up the usual suspects and make it look like we're actually doing something!"
