Apple CEO Says Chinese Have More Skill Making Their Products Than Americans
China Money Report ^ | 22 December 2015 | D. Collins

Tim Cook has come out about a real truth of the decline in manufacturing. What he omitted however, is that no one will manufacture in the U.S. unless they absolutely have to due to a 38% corporate tax rate.

On 60 Minutes Sunday, Charlie Rose asked Apple CEO Tim Cook about his company’s manufacturing practices in China. Cook said the decision to use Chinese manufacturing has nothing to do with American workers demanding higher wages. He said it was because the Chinese have more skill.

“Let me be clear,” Cook told Rose, “China put an enormous focus on manufacturing in what you and I would call vocational skills. The U.S., over time, began to stop having as many vocational skills.

I think Cook has a valid point. We have overemphasized college for everyone and let our vocational education system slip away.

We don't need everyone to have a degree in Intercultural/Multicultural and Diversity Studies

Hells bells, they have a billion more people than we do, too.

You're right, they don't have any degrees in multicultural studies or womyn's rights, either.

Somewhere, Mike Rowe weeps quietly to himself.

Female infiltration of male spaces and the feminine imperative at work: always followed by "where have all the good men gone?"

Yeah. And that $1.25 hr. wage is a real problem, too.

Not more skilled just a helluva a lot cheaper. Some people say anything for attention these days and sadly its usually not the truth.

I was on a tour of industrial facilities in the Memphis area last year. One company does a booming business doing warranty repairs for major computer brands like Dell, Apple, and IBM. They located their plant in the Memphis area where the FedEx hub is located so they could guarantee 1-2 day turnaround times for their repairs.

They have a LOT of foreign workers there. And it is all highly skilled labor. Computer technicians and electrical engineers from all over the globe.

Even to my untrained eye, I could see a pecking order on the floor of the facility. Most of the computers were being fixed by foreigners, and the Americans were doing the moving, sorting, packing and custodial work.

They probably sell more of them here than anywhere else. I’m sure they also make components all over the world, even if they do the final assembly here.

We have 90 million adult Americans who are not in the labor force. These people live off the government or their relatives. Certainly some are old, sick unable, but regardless, this a historically huge and unprecedented amount of the population to have doing nothing.

Our progressive nanny state paid for with printed, fake, manipulated Federal Reserve dollars has turned many Americans into slugs. Many Americans couldn't and wouldn't assemble or build anything if their lives depended on it. Its a simple truth.

These aren’t genius level jobs.

Practice and training will get you the same skills from Americans. It’s the cheap wages, and huge profit margins, that he only cares about.

Yeah, they can make the same product for $2 a day instead of $15/hr. And they can make more of the same product because they work 12 hour days instead of 8.

I don’t think the US Government (at least one under Trump) would put up with the number of suicides of employees that China does. The work conditions are horrendous. They live in huge dorms with thousands of other people and work in long shifts, sleep then work again. They are constantly assigned new jobs so that they cannot develop friendships with other ‘workers’.

So they have something to point to when people accuse them of making everything in China?

The truth lies somewhere between your assertion and

"Show up clean & sober, able to do 5th grade math and follow instructions and you have a job with my company, 'Dude' ."

"Chinese slave labor" is not the problem causing the loss of American jobs.

High corporate taxes
Copious welfare payments
EPA/OSHA/EEOC regs
Unions more concerned with their power rather than American jobs and productivity
Obama's War on Coal and the war against increasing domestic production & refining capacity.
The shutdown of any progress in Nuclear power production for industry and desalinization.
The obscene amount of money poured into "college education" in majors that are over-populated, having minimal actual usefulness other than to get you on a fawning daytime TV talk show.
