I was on a tour of industrial facilities in the Memphis area last year. One company does a booming business doing warranty repairs for major computer brands like Dell, Apple, and IBM. They located their plant in the Memphis area where the FedEx hub is located so they could guarantee 1-2 day turnaround times for their repairs.
They have a LOT of foreign workers there. And it is all highly skilled labor. Computer technicians and electrical engineers from all over the globe.
Even to my untrained eye, I could see a pecking order on the floor of the facility. Most of the computers were being fixed by foreigners, and the Americans were doing the moving, sorting, packing and custodial work.

-and the Americans were probably making just about as much money as the imported computer technicians, without the need for an overpriced college education.

Computer repair is not a high level STEM job at the depot level. If you can turn a screw driver you can swap a hard drive.

I know that place. It’s HP. That’s where they send your broken laptop for repair under warranty and Fedex sends it back to you within the week.

???? Conducting rudimentary electronic tests by a fixed schedule and swapping out circuit boards is low-level grunt work and a 10 YO school dropout could do it (and probably do in China).
