Swiss army chief Andre Blattmann warned, in a Swiss newspaper article on Sunday, the risks of social unrest in Europe are soaring. Recalling the experience of 1939/1945, Blattman fears the increasing aggression in public discourse is an explosively hazardous situation, and advises the Swiss people to arm themselves and warns that the basis for Swiss prosperity is "being called into question."

Swiss Citizens used to be armed until their government adopted EU style gun control laws.
Acquiring guns and sufficient ammunition is good advice for all citizens, Swiss or not.

It is not the government I fear so much, as they are manned by our fathers, sons, mothers, daughters, brothers and sisters. It is the unknown lurkers about the property well after all civil authority breaks down.

Doesn’t the Swiss Army send home every conscript with their battle rifle and a certain amount of ammunition? They then bring them back in every 2 years or so for updating and training? Am interested to hear from anyone who has better knowledge than I.
Sounds like an ideal way for a small nation with decentralized government to defend itself and its culture.

The Swiss army has long been a militia trained and structured to rapidly respond against foreign aggression. Swiss males grow up expecting to undergo basic military training, usually at age 20, after which Swiss men remain part of the “militia” in reserve capacity until age 30 (or age 34 for officers). Each such individual is required to keep his army-issued personal weapon (the 5.56x45mm Sig 550 rifle for enlisted personnel and/or the 9mm SIG-Sauer P220 semi-automatic pistol for officers, medical and postal personnel) at home.
When their period of service has ended, militiamen have the choice of keeping their personal weapon and other selected items of their equipment. In cases of retention, the rifle is sent to the weapons factory where the fully automatic function is removed; the rifle is then returned to the discharged owner as a semi-automatic or self-loading rifle.
To carry firearms in public or outdoors (and for an individual who is a member of the militia carrying a firearm other than his Army-issue personal weapons off-duty), a person must have a permit, which in most cases is issued only to private citizens working in occupations such as security.
My sister was assigned to a Swiss bank temporarily before she was eventually assigned to Hong Kong. She went to the local convenience store in Basel one afternoon and there was a line up.
Hard to believe for some people here, but she observed some of them were armed concealed within their jackets. And this was in 09’.
